been denied their basic rights, helping to better understand, to challenge, and
to change the situation in which they find themselves.

About Project:

This project aims at
eliminating the practice of Open Defecation in the 200 targeted communities and
achievement of water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) friendliness in 10 Primary
Schools in Omoro and Nwoya districts.

Job Summary: The
School WASH Officer will plan, manage, implement and monitor WASH activities in
rural schools to promote and improve water, hygiene and sanitation good
practices in schools.  The person will
also develop and build capacity of school management committees, Parents
Teachers Association, Teachers, School Health Club members, prefects and
community members to effectively operate and maintain school WASH
infrastructure.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·       
Lead the
implementation of School WASH positive behavior change strategy.

·       
Train
school administrators and teachers in the School Led-Total Sanitation (SLTS),
Child Hygiene and Sanitation Training (CHAST) approach and oversee their
implementation.

·       
Facilitate
formation and orientation of one  School
Health Club in each target school

·       
Support
School Health Clubs (SHC), Teachers, School Health Club members and prefects in
planning and implementation health and hygiene promotion activities.

·       
Strengthen
School Management Committees to successfully operate and maintain school WASH
infrastructure.

·       
Establish
productive working relationships with school administrators and government
officials to promote good WASH practices in schools.

·       
Conduct
school WASH assessments of prospective schools to inform program design and
guide implementation.

·       
Monitor
and ensure functionality of School WASH facilities, including improved water
sources, latrines and hand washing facilities.

·       
Evaluate
success of school intervention in accordance with organizational policy and
maintain related data and records.

·       
Produce
and submit progress reports on activities to meet organization reporting needs
and donor timelines.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicant
must hold a Degree in environmental health science, public health, engineering,
social science or any discipline related to Water, Hygiene and Sanitation and
two years of field experience

·       
Experience
in conducting Training of Trainers (ToT) sessions at the school level.

·       
Experience
implementing WASH projects.

·       
Strong
knowledge and skills in school WASH promotion tools or other behavior change
approaches such as School Led-Total Sanitation (SLTS), Child Hygiene and
Sanitation Training (CHAST).

·       
Experience
in hygiene promotion and behavior change communications.

·       
Excellent
interpersonal, facilitation skills, strong written and oral communication
skills.

·       
Proactive
and results-oriented.

·       
Strong
computer skills, notably in Microsoft Word and Excel.

·       
Able to
both work independently with minimum supervision and as part of a larger team.

·       
Good
spoken and written English.

·       
Possesses
a valid riding permit and knowledge of road rules.

·       
Understanding
of the impact of gender status and relationships on WASH and health practices

·       
Knowledge
and/or experience in participatory community approaches and techniques

·       
Prepared
to spend longer time periods in the field.

·       
Knowledge
of the languages spoken in the area is an added advantage.
