Makerere University,
Kampala is Uganda’s largest and oldest institution of higher
learning, first established as a technical school in 1922. It became
an independent national university in 1970. Today, Makerere University is
composed of nine colleges and one school offering programmes for about 36,000
undergraduates and 4,000 postgraduates.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·       
Facilitate
the development and strengthening of relationships between key donor prospects
(including alumni) and Makerere University Constituent colleges.

·       
Support
the development of strong relationships between fundraising prospects and the
Colleges of Makerere University.

·       
Build on
the relationships to develop and drive the execution of a fundraising work
plan.

·       
Prepare
stewardship reports, develop and co-ordinate the production of fundraising and
appreciation materials in close liaison with the respective Colleges and the
Public Relations Office.

·       
Work with
Research Assistant to identify key prospects, qualify them

·       
and
develop an appropriate strategy for developing the relationship. Supervise the
Research Assistants in developing a pipeline of fundraising prospect pool.

·       
Oversee
the development and implementation of prospect relationship management system
& provide regular written reports.

·       
Participate
in department strategies and solution in implementation of relevant Council
policies.

·       
Support
the implementation of initial staff performance evaluation of direct reports.

·       
Any
Other duties that may be assigned in the normal course of doing business.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant for the Development Officer job must hold a Master’s Degree in
Business, Economics, Statistics or Management field Experience in fundraising
will be an added advantage.

·       
At least
four years of relevant working experience in management, organizational
development, or financial administration

·       
Exposure
in fundraising.

·       
A good
understanding of the higher education funding environment such as alumni and
development partners.

·       
A strong
ability to prepare funding proposals

·
