Job Summary: The National Animal Production/Nutrition
Specialist will support the ECTAD country team, technical and management
leadership and advisory services on National Animal Production issues.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·
Provide
technical backstopping to the Ministry of Agriculture Animal Industries and
Fisheries (MAAIF) in the implementation and institutionalization of feed
inventory and balance, Predictive Livestock Early Warning System PLEWS,
Pictorial Evaluation Tools PET and Feed Security Assessment.
·
Initiate
and coordinate the selection of the implementation partner and management of
the contract.
·
Facilitate
in collaboration with national focal points the identification of trainees from
the districts to carryout data collection, analysis and reporting for the
livestock tools.
·
Co-ordinate
in collaboration with the focal point from the Ministry all the skill
development and training of districts staff on the livestock tools.
·
Provide
technical support to the field data collection, reviews, analysis and reporting
for the entire feed inventory and balance process.
·
Support
in the ground verification process of data collected and assist in the
preparation of technical validation workshops.
·
Facilitate
and provide FAO technical support in national livestock feed security
assessment.
·
Review
and clear technical reports submitted by implementing partner and technical
experts.
·
Provide
technical support in the establishment of sentinel sites for PLEWS
·
Coordinate
contribution from Uganda on review of article and publications of animal feed
inventory and balance.
·
Facilitate
and co-ordinate the development of relevant documentation and dissemination of
the information and results generated to all stakeholders in Uganda.
·
Perform
other related duties as required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The
ideal candidate for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations
(FAO) National Animal Production/Nutrition Specialist job opportunity should hold a University degree in Veterinary
Medicine/Animal Science with additional
training in one of the following fields: Animal Nutrition / Production,
Grassland/rangeland Science
·
Minimum
10 years of relevant experience in implementation of livestock development
projects covering animal feed issues and livestock value chains
·
Working
knowledge of English

evidence of writing technical reports and publication of animal nutrition /
production in refereed journals
·
Excellent
networking with animal productions institutions and professional associations
at national and regional level
·
Proven
knowledge of Uganda national livestock sector bills, plans, strategies and
policies
·
Excellent
livestock production work experience and knowledge of districts and regions in
the country
