leading international water and waste company, is looking for qualified and
responsible individuals to fill different positions for a major water project
in their Uganda operations

Job Summary:  The Health and Safety Officer will facilitate
compliance with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines. The ideal candidate
will be a responsible individual whose work will be largely focused on
prevention and ready to act in emergencies. The goal of the Health and Safety
Officer position is to foster a culture of attention to health and safety, and
to establish a safe work environment according to legal standards and
established guidelines and procedures. The selected candidate will be engaged
in promoting occupational health and safety within an organization by ensuring
that the workplace conforms to organizational procedures and safety
standards/regulations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Supporting
the development, implementation and monitoring of Site operations, Occupational
Health and Safety Policy, Programs, and Procedures.

·       
Assist
the Company in complying with current health and safety legislation and/or
regulations with the objective of ensuring that all reasonable and proper
measures are taken to protect the safety and health of Management, workforce
staff, clients and visitors to the camps.

·       
Advising
and instructing on various safety-related topics and measures to minimize
hazards or unhealthy situations.

·       
Respond
to employees’ safety concerns, and Conducting risk assessment and enforcing
preventative measures.

·       
Review
existing policies and measures and update according to legislation.

·       
Initiate
and organize OHS training of employees.

·       
Inspect
premises and the work of personnel to identify issues or non-conformity; and
being on a constant lookout for violations.

·       
Record
and investigate incidents to determine causes, including preparing reports on
occurrences and provide information to management.

·       
Assist
all Departments in implementation of H&S compliance and advise accordingly

·       
Build
action plans according to objectives and non-conformances

·       
Increase
health and safety awareness at all levels within the organization by training
fellow employees in health and safety practices.

·       
On call
for any health and safety emergencies on site.

·       
To
assume other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The
applicant must hold a BSc/BA in safety management from a recognised
institution. A Certificate or Diploma in occupational health and safety will be
considered relevant.

·       
Recognised
and accredited attendance of necessary training courses.

·       
Proven
experience as safety officer. Experience in First Aid will be an added
advantage.

·       
In depth
knowledge of relevant legislation and procedures.

·       
Knowledge
of potentially hazardous materials or practices.

·       
Experience
in writing reports and policies for health and safety.

·       
Proficient
in MS Office; Working knowledge of safety management information systems is a
plus.

·       
Outstanding
organizational skills; Diligent with great attention to detail and Excellent
communication skills with the ability to present and explain health and safety
topics

·       
Fluent
in English. Working knowledge of French is desirable but not mandatory.

·       
Proven
track record with contactable references
