About US:
Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC) was established in 1992 by an
Act of Parliament (Cap 208) and is under the Office of the President of the
Republic of Uganda. The Act provides for the Commission to Oversee, Plan and
Coordinate AIDS Prevention and Control activities throughout Uganda.
Job Summary: The Head, Communication and Advocacy will
manage communication and advocacy programmes of UAC in the promotion of the
National and International Response to HIV and AIDS epidemic in Uganda; and to
oversee the execution of the Public Relations function.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
·
Advise management on advocacy and public
relations policies and strategies for UAC;
·
Undertake advocacy for National HIV and AIDS
Response related polices ;
·
Prepare strategies and plan for advocating for
the support and participation of stakeholders in the National HIV and AIDS
Response ;
·
Work out public relations strategies and
programme for UAC and National HIV and AIDS Response;
·
Organize and conduct sensitization meetings,
seminars and other forums for the National HIV and AIDS Response;
·
Mobilize stakeholders in the National Response
to HIV and AIDS to play their respective parts effectively;
·
Attend meetings, workshops and conferences to
advocate and seek support for UAC and take the necessary follow- up actions;
·
Oversee organization of National HIV and AIDS
Response related events.
·
Develop strategies and issue guidelines for
Behavioral Change Communication (BCC) in respect of the National Response to
HIV and AIDS;
·
Coordinate, monitor and support the
implementation of Behavioral Change Communication (BCC) initiatives,
·
Coordinate other activities necessary for
implementation of the agreed advocacy strategies and plans ;
·
Guide UAC Managers and staff in playing their
respective roles with respect to advocacy and public relations activities;
·
Monitor and evaluate the level of awareness and
participation of stakeholders in the National Response to HIV and AIDS and
review the advocacy strategies as may be necessary in order to raise the
awareness;
·
Monitor implementation of UAC’s Advocacy and
public relations programmes, determines and take necessary follow up actions;
·
Evaluate the effectiveness and impact of UAC,
advocacy and public relations programmes and determine and take necessary
follow-ups actions.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The applicant must hold an honors Bachelors
Degree in Mass communication, Journalism, Multimedia Studies, Strategic
Communication and Public Relations or a related field from a recognized
institution.
·
A post graduate qualification in Mass
communication, Journalism, Multimedia Studies, Strategic Communication and
Public Relations or a related field from a recognized institution.
·
At least ten (10) years working experience
three(3) of which must have been served at a level of senior Public Relations
officer in a public or reputable private organization
·
