NGO committed to environmental protection active in almost 100 countries. WWF
has a growing conservation Programme in the Republic of Uganda. WWF Uganda
Country Office (WWF UCO) works with central and local government agencies,
private sector, civil society organizations (CSOs) and the local communities to
implement its various conservation programmes on Energy and Climate, Forestry
and Wildlife, and Freshwater in Uganda.

Job Summary:  The Forest and Markets Transformation Manager will
support implementation of forest wildlife and freshwater program specifically
strategic objectives related to transformation of markets for forest products and
other natural resources at district, national and cross border in order to
promote sustainable forest management

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Supports development and implementation of
district forest business plans in the Albertine Graben

·       
Strengthens institutional, structural, financial
technical and technological capacity development of the civil society groups,
timber growers and traders associations as strong cooperatives that can
undertake forest landscape restoration, develop markets and value chains of
forest products

·       
Maps the private sector companies and main
markets of timber and other forest products in Uganda and promote market access
by the District Timber Traders and Growers Associations

·       
Promotes FLEGT and FSC forest certification market
based approaches in partnership with other relevant stakeholders

·       
Influences government and its major donors to
adopt responsible procurements of any forest products such as paper, furniture
and construction

·       
Supports development of regulatory mechanisms and
policies with relevant ministries and agencies in support of sustainable
production, trade, production and consumption of forest products

·       
Supports forest based businesses to access
modern and efficient technologies for harvesting and processing to reduce
wasteful consumption and maximize benefits

·       
Implements regional forest program initiatives
for the Uganda Country Office

·       
Regularly produce and disseminate high quality
impact and communication stories resulting from the interventions

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicant must hold a Masters of Science or
equivalent training in Forestry, Wood science and Technology, Environmental
Economics, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline.

·       
At least five years’ experience in or a similar field;

·       
Demonstrable experience engaging with
government, private sector and civil society at all levels;

·       
Experience of working with international
organizations;

·       
Experience working with relevant ministries,
local governments and the local communities;
