The United States
Embassy in Kampala, Uganda has enjoyed diplomatic relations with Uganda for
over 30 years.  Ambassador Deborah R. Malac currently heads the U.S
Mission to Uganda.  The Mission is composed of several offices and
organizations all working under the auspices of the Embassy and at the
direction of the Ambassador.

  • United States Agency for International
    Development (USAID)
  • Centers for Disease Control (CDC)
  • Peace Corps

Job Summary:  The USEFM General Services Assistant supports the
Assistant General Services Officer (A/GSO) in all day-to-day operations of the
Property/Supply and Housing sections. Reports directly to the A/GSO.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

·       
Responsible
for the supervision of all warehouse activities, overseeing the full range of
duties relating to expendable and non-expendable property management, assisting
with the inventory reconciliation process, coordinating for property auctions,
and facilitating the house make-ready process during the arrivals and
departures of American officers.    

·       
Assist
the A/GSO in conducting regular spot checks for Property Management, Receiving
process, NEPA tagging process, and expendables to ensure that inventory remains
accurate at all times. 

·       
Take a
prominent role in annual reconciliation process. 

·       
Advise
on annual property purchases.

·       
Plan,
coordinate, and supervise all residential make readies in conjunction with
Property & Supply, Leasing and Facilities Maintenance staff. 

·       
Work
closely with the Facilities Manager in managing all make readies from start to
completion to ensure cost effective, reliable, safe, and timely completion of
make readies. 

·       
Work
closely with the Embassy Health and Safety Officer to ensure that there is a
zero defect policy with compliance in the application of proper procedures for
the treatment of vectors and the control and use of chemicals for removal of
pests.                       

·       
Guide
Housing staff in selecting appropriate residences for housing pool and works
with the Housing Officer (GSO) in recommending residence assignments to the
Inter-Agency Housing Board (IAHB). 

·       
Ensures
that houses are in compliance with size, lease, security, and safety
regulations.

·       
Serves
as a non-voting member of the IAHB and is responsible for note-taking and
setting up agenda and logistics.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

job opportunity should hold a University Degree in liberal arts, business
administration or sciences

·       
At least
three years of experience as a staff manager/supervisor is required.

·       
Must
have a good working knowledge of Department of State or associated agency
General Services and Facilities Maintenance regulations and procedures in
general and detailed knowledge of those instructions and procedures which apply
to the assigned tasks.

·       
Must be
tactful, yet effective, in dealing with American personnel relative to
inventories of household furnishings and equipment. 

·       
Must
have advanced typing and computer skills, in particular those dealing with
spreadsheets and data organization. 

·       
Must
have the ability to learn complex USG database systems, such as WebPass and
ILMS.

·       
Language:  Level
IV English speaking and writing ability is required. This may be tested.
