conflict in the Horn, East & Central Africa by implementing WASH, Health,
Education, Livelihoods, Community service & development and Protection
programs in the region for a period of more than 20 years. 

HIJRA,
in a strategy to expand existing program implementing team, is now seeking for
a qualified person willing to offer Humanitarian services in the position of
Public Health Promotion Assistants to be based in Kyangwali Refugee Settlement
– Kikuube District.

Job Summary:  The Public Health Promotion Assistant shall
work closely with communities for the establishment of WASH and sanitation facilities
in the operation areas to reduce the risk of water and sanitation related
communicable diseases by promoting good hygiene practice in communities.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

·       Implement and supervise
the Public Health Promotion activities in the project area in interactive and
participatory manner;

·       Under the guidance of
the PHE officer, take part in water, sanitation and hygiene need assessments;

·       Work with the community
and local administration to ensure that the health promotion needs of the
population are met;

·       Manage mobilization of
the community to promote hygiene practices, public sanitation, with more
emphasis on monitoring latrine use, water collection/storage, environmental
sanitation and hand washing practices;

·       Co–facilitate community
problem identification, planning (formulation of action plans, MOUs, hand
over), implementation of community activities, participatory monitoring and
evaluation, using community mobilization and sensitization techniques;

·       Work closely with the
rural utility, community based institutions (such as WASH Co), community health
volunteers, and local level government officials, to undertake community (men,
women, children) mobilization and capacity building on quality WASH services;

·       Be involved in designing
and delivering training for implementing partners and community (WASH Co,
operation and maintenance technicians) or supervise the training given by
zonal, regional and district government partners;

·       Undertake field visits
to supervise and assist in the implementation of the activities and take
appropriate measures to tackle operation problems affecting the implementation
processes and quality of the intervention;

·       Ensure that work is
carried out in a way that is sensitive to the Refugee community needs and
gender issues, in particular, to promote the full and equal participation of
women in all aspect of the work;

·       Provide inputs and
participate in the collection, compilation of weekly, monthly and project end
reports where necessary, relating to the progress made on WASH, with focus on
objectives, obstacles and possible solutions, together with future plans and
recommendations;

·       Responsible for
distribution activities, including identification of goods and materials,
registration of beneficiaries and distribution of items to target communities;

·       Take part in training
delivery at community level – including women’s groups and Child to Child
activities, CLTSH, CHAST etc.;

·       Under the guidance of
the PHE Officer, carry out water quality analysis, disinfection and report
accordingly;

·       Support WASH team to
ensure adherence to minimum standards of technical quality in all WASH related
activities and interventions;

·       Any other duties as
maybe assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       The applicant must hold
a Degree/Diploma in Public Health or Environmental Health

·       Previous work experience
with at least 1 year in a same field or a similar functional area preferably
with an NGO

·       Excellent communication
skills

·       Good computer literacy

·       Fluency in English and
local languages

·       Good capacity building
and community mobilization skills

·       Ability to organize and
prioritize work

·       Excellent interpersonal
and communication skills

·       Good cultural awareness
and sensitivity

·       Ability to resolve
individual and group conflicts.
