Mukasa Library at the Main Campus, Mukono is seeking a service-oriented
individual to fill the position of Learning Commons Assistant, to work during
evenings and weekends. The position oversees the general operations of the
Learning Commons, assists students and staff with computers and related
technology, monitoring the use of the space, and answering or referring library
reference questions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
Assist Learning Commons Coordinator in day-to-day
operations of the Learning Commons.
Assist students and faculties in the use of technology
available in the Learning Commons.
Answers general computer hardware and software
Provide research and reference assistance to
Monitor computer workstations and logs, periphery
equipment and reports problems as necessary.
Circulate equipment to students and faculties.
Assist in maintaining an inventory (of library
hardware/software and equipment, etc.).
Monitor student activities for the purpose of
maintaining a safe environment conducive to learning.
Responsible for supervising evening and weekend
Student Assistants
Monitors use of group study room reservations and
usage in the evening and weekend.
Responsible for ensuring the Learning Commons are
properly closed.
Any other official duties as may be assigned by the

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Diploma in Library and Information Science or
Information Technology or Educational Technology or related qualification.
At least 2 – 3 years’ work experience performing
similar activities.
A Bachelors degree in Library and Information
Science or Information Technology or Educational Technology or related
qualification will be an added advantage.
Previous experience using library resources and
services; experience providing customer service in an academic or library
environment or working in a Learning Commons, computer lab or information
technology environment.
Good computer skills in Windows, Linux OS, Microsoft
Office applications, Open Office, basic online and database research skills and
experience using integrated library system software
Must be self-motivated, can work under minimum
supervision, have the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Should have good communication and interpersonal
skills including problem solving.
Must be a mature and committed Christian
