About Tugende:

Tugende is a
technology enabled asset finance company with a social mission. We provide an
affordable path to ownership of income-generating assets for proven
entrepreneurs. Our primary product is a lease to own motorcycle financing
package which includes training, life and health insurance, and active support.
Tugende currently serves tens of thousands of clients in Uganda and we are
preparing to extend our offering into Kenya.

 

It was formally
established in 2012 in Uganda and is a technology-enabled asset financier of
income-generating assets for proven entrepreneurs, using a lease-to-own product
to offer an affordable path to ownership of these assets. Tugende empowers
customers unable to access formal credit, and has financed over 30,000
customers.

 

About the role: Tugende is searching for a motivated, experienced and highly-skilled head
of analysis and business intelligence. The job holder will conduct thorough
data analysis, help design and implement analytics programs, generate reports,
and collaborate with various teams to ensure we are optimizing our resources
and maximizing our market share. To succeed in this position, you must be
driven and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

 

Key Duties and
Responsibilities:

Data Analytics

·        
To
ensure the ongoing integrity and consistency in all of Tugende’s data, monthly
audits on varying data sources will be run. 
This will be done in tandem with the IT department and will cover financial
and non-financial customer data, as well as any other proprietary data created
by Tugende in it’s day to day operations.

·        
Build
& implement monthly credit risk report with head of risk to allow
management easy access to current credit risk of its portfolio and segments
thereof.

Data Structuring

·        
In order
to ensure Tugende’s ability to consume all of its data sources effectively and
continuously improve on this ability, data frames & predictive variables
will be created, maintained and updated on an ongoing basis.  This will not only allow easy access to
necessary data when and where it’s needed but will also allow analysts to
easily explore data to build and improve predictive models.

Predictive Modeling
& Credit Decisioning

In order for Tugende
to scale its innovative business model to serve a larger customer base and
extend its reach into the communities it serves, decision making processes need
to be centralised for better control.  To
this end different predictive models will be built to measure clients
willingness and ability to pay.  Models
to be built will include but will not be limited to :

Logistic Regression

Decision Trees

·        
Markov models

Customer Insights

·        
Along
with the CCO, the Head of Analytics will endeavour to establish an ongoing
customer insights program within Tugende to better understand our clients,
employees and the broader community we serve. 
This program will focus primarily on the following areas:

Customer Engagement

The customer
engagement program will collect and analyse non-financial data of our clients
to form a 360 degree view.  Data will be
used to build models including the following:

Retention Models

·        
Brand Loyalty Metrics

·        
Customer Satisfaction

·        
Conjoint & Response Models

Social Impact

·        
The
social impact program will establish a first-of-its-kind in-house study of how
Tugende’s operations positively impacts both it’s clients and the broader
community it operates in.  Actionable
insights will be defined in time

Employee Engagement

The employee engagement
program will engage Tugende staff on an ongoing basis to better understand
their needs and what they need to serve clients better.  This program will track employee

Loyalty/Enthusiasm

Advanced Analytics

·        
Tugende
will utilise it’s disparate data sources to implement advanced predictive
models to detect internal and external fraud as well as anomaly detection to
find ways to better serve clients.

Digital Finance
Products

Building on
Tugende’s current branch infrastructure and leveraging our new UMRA license, we
aim to venture into the digital finance space and to provide our clients with a
complete digital finance suit.  Products
in this suit will include:

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·        
A
Bachelor’s degree in  Economics,
Quantitative Economics, Mathematics, Statistics or other relevant fields.

·        
A
Master’s degree in Business Administration is an added advantage.

·        
At least
7 years’ experience in Analytics

·        
A
Certification in data management related fields is an added advantage.

 

Personal attributes and abilities:

·        
Knowledge
of statistics and statistical packages for analyzing datasets ( Excel, SPSS,
STATA, SAS etc)

·        
Extensive
knowledge of using G-Suite is an asset

·        
Analytical
knowledge with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate
significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy

·        
Knowledge
of data extraction formatting and presentation tools and techniques e.g query
writing and data formatting

·        
Timely
Delivery of tasks and multitasking skills.

·        
Good
communication skills

·        
Teamwork
and professionalism
