About

The
Infectious Diseases Research Collaboration (IDRC) is a non-profit research
organization. IDRC conducts research in infectious diseases including Malaria,
HIV and Tuberculosis. Our studies have led to over 300 publications and have
impacted on the management of infectious diseases in Uganda. IDRC currently
manages over 41 Grants with an annual budget of $11 million. IDRC was
established in May 2008 by Ugandan health scientists from Makerere University
College of Health Sciences, University of California, San Francisco and the
Uganda Ministry of Health.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

·       Work with project team
to develop    and implement an effective
communication            strategy.

·       Create awareness and
maintain stakeholder engagement by sharing progress and seeking feedback on
project     implementation.

·       Participate in relevant
meetings, events, seminars   and press
conferences.

·       Respond to media
inquiries, arrange for interviews and press              statements
etc

·       Promote project branding
including project logo,     information
brochures, flyers and posters.

·       Develop and   continuously update the project website and              content for other social media
platforms.

·       Develop drafts of mass
media announcements, like articles in newspapers, press      Releases and newsletters.

·       Attend and participate
in project dissemination meetings.

·       Write policy    briefs.

·       Support other IDRC   communication activities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       The ideal applicant must
hold a Bachelors ‘Degree in Journalism, Mass Communication or Public Relations.

·       A Master’s degree in   a related field is an added advantage.             

·       Previous working
experience in a similar setting and or as a Communications         

·       Specialist, Public
Relations Officer for a minimum of two years

·       Evidence of good
writing, communication and presentation skills

·       Excellent interpersonal
skills

·       Outstanding    organizational and time-management skills

·       Ability to work under
stringent deadlines and to work independently
