About US:
The
mission of the Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is to strengthen health
systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases through
research and capacity development. IDI has six operational areas through which
it works to achieve its mission: Prevention, Care and Treatment; Training,
Global Health Security, Research and Laboratory services (provided through a
partnership with the Makerere University- John Hopkins University Core Lab) and
Outreach.
About CDC Project:
The
Global Health Security Partner Engagement project with funding from U.S Center
for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is carrying out surveillance for Acute
Febrile illness at different 4 surveillance sites; Mubende, Kabale, Arua and
Jinja. The overall goal is identifying the leading causes of non-malarial acute
febrile illnesses in multiple geographic regions of Uganda, the antimicrobial
susceptibility of bacterial pathogens and building a sustainable laboratory and
surveillance capacity with focus on vector- borne & zoonotic diseases.
Job Summary: The holders of this position will be
responsible for ensuring that all programme data is collected, entered into the
manual and electronic systems. They will analysis and support technical staff
with well analyzed and collated data sets. They will ensure that facilities
have all the required data collection tools and data is entered at all times.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
· Support facilities in
timely compilation of project data and ensuring that all the data entered is
clean
· Open and maintain a line
of communication with clinicians, hospital administrators and other staff on
matters such as; Data quality, Completeness of inpatient admission record forms
and MRFs and performing lab tests on eligible patients
· Support health facility
staff to produce data summaries for display on noticeboards (showing progress)
· Work with clinicians to
observe good medical record keeping practices
· Participate in analysis
and interpretation of data
· Respond to periodic data
queries generated and participate in data cleaning.
· Ensure filing of all
laboratory test results and other records in the appropriate files
· Ensuring availability of
required HMIS tools i.e. registers, forms, guidelines etc.
· Provide supplies
forecast to avoid stock outs of HMIS tools.
· Sharing with Clinicians’
results of tests (blood culture, viral serology) done in Kampala, or UVRI.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
· Bachelors in Nursing and midwifery
· Full and up to date
registration with the nursing and midwifery council
· Recent clinical
experience working in clinical care is desired.
· Experience in data
management is desired.
· At least 2 years’
progressive experience in data management and systems development, especially
in health sector.
· Experience analysis and
reporting/ presentation of data for both research and capacity programme
decision-making
· Good report writing and
presentation skills
· Strong computer skills
in at least Word, Power point, spreadsheets, and database systems
