renamed itself the Uganda National Teachers’ Union in March 2003 and thereby
complied with the Trade Union Act of 1971. In 2006, these laws were updated
with the Labor Unions Act. UNATU has been recognized as a charitable
organization since 2006. With its 140,000 members, it is the largest and oldest
teacher union in the country

About the project:

“Simameni:
Stand Together for Girls’ Education” is a five-year project of the
Canadian Teachers’ Federation (CTF/FCE) and the Uganda National Teachers’ Union
(UNATU). Simameni, which means “stand up” in Swahili, seeks to
improve access to, participation in, retention and opportunities from quality
publicly funded public education for girls and young women at the secondary
school level in selected communities within the Western and Teso regions of
Uganda.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

·       The Program Officers who
will Work as a link between the field and the UNATU secretariat

·       Coordinate the
collaborations between UNATU, Ministry of Education and Sports, and other civil
society organizations and stakeholders that are critical in the successful
implementation of the Simameni Project.

·       Lead the process of
developing the project implementation and annual work plan Be the focal point
person on Girls education and other Gender in Education related issues within
the geographical area of responsibility by providing the required technical
guidance.

·       Develop and execute a
Performance Monitoring Plan with relevant data collection systems in line with
the Project goals and objectives including but not limited to conducting
baseline, mid-line, and end-line assessments

·       Collaborate with the
Accounting Officer in managing the project budget

·       Provide the necessary
technical and other support to collaborating partners and stakeholders in
Uganda to implement project activities;

·       Periodically produce and
submit progress reports as required Perform other project-related duties as
necessary.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       The ideal applicant must
hold a  Bachelor’s degree in Education,
Development Studies, Social Sciences, Gender Studies or any other relevant
field.

·        Master’s Degree in Project Planning and
Management or any other related field.

·       At least 2 years of
relevant experience with similar work particularly in areas of project
management, engaging civil society, managing donor-funded projects, and
rights-based advocacy in a reputable and busy Organization.

required includes: A Cover letter, CV, Certified photocopies of academic
transcripts and certificates, National ID, documentary evidence of all
experience claimed, recent passport photograph attached on each application and
reference letters from three different referees, one being a current or most
recent supervisor
