Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency against world hunger. It
is the largest and longest serving humanitarian agency in Uganda. Currently WFP
focuses on three priority areas: Saving lives in Emergencies; Building
Resilience through Predictable Safety Nets; Improving Nutrition &
Mother-and Child Health; and Supporting Small Holder Farmers to Access Markets.
WFP has operations in various parts of the Country.

Job Summary:  The programme
Associate (Analysis, Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning), G6 are expected to
demonstrate responsibility and initiative to respond independently to various
queries with only general guidance. There is a requirement to use judgment in
dealing with unforeseen operational problems on a daily basis. Job holders are
expected to manage resources and coach and coordinate support staff. 
To provide effective
specialized support and technical analyses to policy and programme activities
that effectively meet food assistance needs.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Support the design and implementation of food assistance and
    nutrition interventions by WFP and its partners by providing food security
    and nutrition analysis and response analysis;
  • Support the AMEL unit in reviewing, harmonizing and standardizing
    the existing approaches to vulnerability analysis, early warning, food
    security and nutrition assessment and food assistance targeting, including
    objectives, methodology, and geographic coverage and data collection
    methods;
  • Lead regular and ad hoc food security and nutrition assessments,
    market assessments and monitoring, including field work, data analysis and
    report preparation and dissemination;
  • Maintain well organized records of historical food security and
    nutrition analysis data, analysis and reports;
  • Liaise with national and international organizations with respect to
    periodic data acquisition, establishing sound relationship with different
    agencies for effective collaboration and common understanding of food
    security and nutrition analysis;
  • Assist in the development of data collection instruments (e.g.,
    questionnaires) to be used by field staff and counterparts to obtain
    monthly updates on relevant nutrition indicators;
  • Support capacity building of WFP staff and partners in the planning
    and implementation of food security and nutrition assessments as well as
    preparation of reports;
  • Act as a resource person for designing and implementing periodic
    rapid vulnerability, and food security and nutrition assessments;
  • Act as a resource person for maintaining the inventory of GIS
    datasets and creation of maps;




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
  • The ideal applicant must hold a university post-graduate degree in
    development evaluation & management, agricultural economics, food
    security, nutrition or closely related field;
  • A minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible experience, with
    at least two years in food security analysis, monitoring, and database
    management related functions;
  • Strong English written and oral communication skills;
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge and experience in using
    quantitative analysis techniques, interpretation ad software, including
    SPSS and Stata;
  • Availability and willingness to travel as required to different
    areas of Uganda.
  • A strong statistical background that will facilitate the use of
    complex and rigorous analytical methods, including principal components
    analysis, different sampling strategies, etc.;
  • Experience in the use of ArcGIS and use of GPS;
  • Ability to work under minimum supervision;
  • Ability to work in a team.
