creator of affordable, Pay-To-Own renewable energy products that empower those
living off-grid. Over 34m people in Uganda are off-grid, which equates to 6.2m
households who have no access to power and instead depend on kerosene for light
and local businesses for phone charging. To address this, Fenix International
has developed ReadyPay, a new Pay-To-Own Solar Power System. Coming in a range
of kits, ReadyPay Power Systems are designed to provide clean light, phone
charging, entertainment and more for those living off-grid.

Job Summary:  The Market Development Associate is the
spearhead of Fumba market expansion efforts and will be responsible for 1)
building and maintaining the quality of the market expansion pipeline and the
countries analysis dashboards, 2) owning the remote country due diligence steps
of the market expansion process, 3) building strong country leaderships to
support market expansion in situ. In essence, the Market Development Associate
will act as the internal champion for the markets and their leadership. This is
an exciting role which requires strategic visioning as well as operational
execution. As Market Development Associate you will fully embody Fenix’s core
values “Think Big” and “Make It Happen”. You will work cross-functionally with
our business development and strategy, operations, financial and commercial
teams and will report directly to the head of the business development and
strategy department.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  

Country expansion pipeline

·       
Own the country expansion pipeline by building
and maintaining country analysis dashboards and other business expansion
follow-up tools;

·       
Conduct in depth multidimensional new markets
desk research to inform sector strategies, market entry, and sales activities,
to inform Fenix country expansion roadmap, and produce country profile briefs;

·       
Maintain business intelligence and market
insights with respect to competition and services for countries in pipelines;

·       
Lead the countries’ policies and regulations
analysis with regard to key business components;

·       
Implement countries’ due diligence, including
drilling down on the opportunities and risks factors, identifying main
hypotheses that need to be validated for new market business success and
developing preliminary on-the-ground research work plan for further business
validation and risk mitigation;

·       
Develop and update regular reports to keep
management informed on market findings, launch progress, pipeline overview, KPI
progress, and budget-to-actual;

·       
Support the development of processes within the
market development function.

Strategic Support to Market Launch

·       
Help identify countries critical partnerships
and stakeholders and propose engagement strategy;

·       
Help organize the agenda of field exploratory
missions led by business development and strategy manager;

·       
Assist in profiling and recruiting Country
expansion leads and core country teams;

·       
Coordinate, including pilot logistics, with
Country expansion Leads and global fumba teams to ensure team alignment on
entry strategy and launch milestones.

Knowledge Management

·       
Ensure policies, procedures, and key documents
remain updated for the country and uploaded into Fenix’s central information
sharing database;

·       
Collaborate with other Market Development
Managers to share and document best practices on a regular basis;

·       
Update Country toolkits/templates, and manage
internal database of country-specific documents/tools.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
Outstanding bi-lingual English and French
written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;

·       
Master degree in Business Administration,
International Relations, Economics or other relevant field,

·       
One year of experience living or working in
developing countries;

·       
Leadership & project management experience:
we are looking for entrepreneurial candidates who have contributed
significantly to launch new markets or scale commercial projects;

·       
Two years’ minimum work experience in a relevant
role, particularly B2C;

·       
Demonstrated experience with
macro-socio-economic indicators, competition, and policy and regulation mining
and analysis

·       
Exceptional analytical skills and ability to
synthesize analysis into practical 
action plans and recommendations;

·       
Comfort and experience with cultivating strong
relationships with external stakeholders;

·       
Excellent judgement and ability to work
independently with little supervision;

·       
Mastery of Excel, PPT and ability to make
compelling business presentations;

·       
Highly motivated by customer happiness and great
team culture;

·       
Committed to work for at least 2 years based in
Kampala, Uganda

·       
Experience defining actionable key metrics and
developing complex scoring dashboards;

·       
Experience utilizing analytical techniques to
drive data driven decisions;

·       
Ability to read, interpret and take relevant and
nimble action on a P&L and financial statements;

·       
Understanding of rural BOP markets,  and/or renewable energy industries in
Africa,.
