Job Title:     Legal Assistant

About US:

The Kingdom Bunyoro Kitara was a very extensive, prestigious
and famous at the height of its power. Socially, people were organised in
strong clans with the royal clan of the Kings, princes and princesses. The King
held executive, judiciary and legislative powers. His word was highly respected
and almost equated to the word from God. The King’s subjects ensured that their
King lacked nothing economically. Clans would bring food stuffs (Ebihotole) in
turn and each clan had a specific duty to perform for the King. For example,
Abaliisa clan were the shepherds of the Kings cattle (Enkorogi), the Abahamba
clan were the hunters and body guards (Abakumirizi) for the King, the Abasiita
clan being the artisans and craftsmen and the Bayaga clan were the chief
entertainers of the King.

Job Summary: The
Legal Assistant will monitor all legal affairs within the kingdom and handle
both internal and external legal concerns while ensuring that bkk is kept out
of legal trouble

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Offer legal advice to the kingdom

·       
Update legal instruments of the kingdom

·       
Explain legal issues of the kingdom

·       
Write opinions on legal matters

·       
Advise on litigation matters

·       
Draft contractual documents

·       
Offer legal interpretation

·       
Appear in court in matters of the kingdom

·       
Draft legal documents for the kingdom

·       
Peruse memoranda and contracts for the kingdom

·       
Liaise with external lawyers on matters relating
to the kingdom

·       
Advise on legal risks

·       
Reporting

·       
Maintain records of all legal matters

·       
Prepare reports for consideration by the kingdom

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicant must hold an honors degree in law
(LLB)

·       
A post graduate diploma in legal practice (LDC)
from the law development centre

·       
Enrolled as an advocate of the high court of
Uganda.

·       
One year of related work experience in legal
practice

·       
Knowledge of Runyoro Language

·       
Ability to work under minimum supervision

·       
Excellent oral and written communication

·       
Attention to detail

·       
Good planning and organization skills
