About US:

The Mission of the Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry
and Fisheries is to “Transform Subsistence Farming to Commercial Agriculture”.
The Government of Uganda has received credit from the African Development Bank
towards financing the Agriculture Value Chain Development Project (AVCP 1). The
main goal of the project is to contribute to poverty reduction and economic
growth in Uganda through enhanced productivity and commercialization of agriculture.

Job Summary: The Engineer will support the planning
and implementation of the civil works activities in the Project.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

·       
Carry out field surveys and data collection for
purposes of preparing plans and designs for civil works projects such as roads,
irrigation infrastructure, storage infrastructure, buildings, etc.

·       
Supervise civil, mechanical and electrical works
for constructions, operations and maintenance activities at project sites.

·       
Work with local governments to train farmers on
maintenance of project supported infrastructure

·       
Supervise and monitor civil works service
providers to meet all performance and delivery obligations.

·       
Work with farmers and local governments to plan
for farm infrastructure in Project areas.

·       
Prepare drawings, bills of quantities and
specifications for civil works related projects.

·       
Participate in bid evaluations for supplies,
works, and services.

·       
Inspect works, review contractor’s invoices and
interim certificates and recommend to the Project Engineer for certification.

·       
Keep contract management records and close file
on completion of all contract obligations.

·       
Prepare reports on the progress of the works as
required

·       
Undertake other duties and responsibilities
related to Project work as directed by the Senior Engineer.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

·       
The applicant must hold an Honours Bachelor’s
Degree in Civil Engineering, or Water Resources Engineering, or Agricultural
Engineering, or Irrigation Engineering.

·       
At least three years of working experience in
design, Construction, Maintenance and Supervision of Water and Agricultural
related Infrastructure.

·       
Possession of knowledge and experience of
Government planning and reporting procedures will be of added advantage.
