Forum for Women in
Democracy is a non-partisan women’s organization operating in Uganda with its
head office in Kampala. FOWODE grew out of the Women’s Caucus of the 1994 –
1995 Constituent Assembly (CA) that debated and passed the 1995 Constitution.
The organization’s mission is to promote gender equality in all areas of
decision making through capacity development, community empowerment, policy
engagement and strategic partnerships.

Job Summary:
The Program Manager for the Gender and Economic Justice Programme plays a
major role at the Forum for Women in Democracy (FOWODE) as s/he heads one of
FOWODE’s two programs. The Program Manager is mandated to think strategically
and innovatively for the program and ensure that the program remains highly
visible and current. In addition, the role requires that the Manager is able to
fundraise for the program.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Provide strategic direction and technical support to the program.
  • Ensure alignment of the program’s work to the organizational
    strategy.
  • Identify innovations to propel the program and ensure it remains
    current and relevant.
  • Participate in monitoring and evaluation of program activities and
    take appropriate steps to ensure that the program achieves excellent
    results.
  • Ensure the timely development and submission of program narrative
    reports.
  • Identify fundraising opportunities for the program and together with
    the team raise funds for the program.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships for the program in
    particular and the organization in general.
  • Supervise the program officers working in the program.
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Director of Programme or
    Executive Director. 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Economics.
    A Master’s degree will be an added advantage.
  • A certificate in program planning and management will also be an
    added advantage.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in a Non-governmental organization
  • At least 3 years’ experience in program management.
  • Strategic planning and management.
  • Policy analysis, research and advocacy skills and experience.
  • Experience in fundraising.
  • Clear thinking with conceptual and analytical skills.
  • Facilitation / Training skills.
  • Computer literacy with working knowledge of Microsoft word, excel,
    power point.
  • Good knowledge and appreciation of women’s rights and gender.
