About US:

Following the signing of the Lusaka Ceasefire Agreement in
July 1999 between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and five regional
States (Angola, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda and Zimbabwe) in July 1999, the Security
Council established the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic
Republic of the Congo (MONUC) by its resolution 1279 of 30 November 1999,
initially to plan for the observation of the ceasefire and disengagement of
forces and maintain liaison with all parties to the Ceasefire Agreement. Later
in a series of resolutions, the Council expanded the mandate of MONUC to the
supervision of the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement and assigned
multiple related additional tasks.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:  Within delegated authority, the
Logistics Assistant will carry out the following duties:

  • Screen all logistics
    request forms before submission to the LogOps Supervisor.
  • Assist in coordinating the
    required logistics support within the UNESB with different SD (Service
    Delivery) & SCM (Supply Chain Management) sections in support of
    contingents rotations, MEDEVAC, human remains repatriation and VIP visits
    as directed.
  • When tasked, receive
    weekly reports from SD & SCM sections, draft the weekly logistics
    reports and submit it to LogOps Supervisor for review.
  • Coordinate the provision
    of adequate logistics support, under supervision of ESB LogOps Supervisor,
    to authorized staff and entities within the UNESB Area of Responsibility
    (AOR).
  • Liaises with relevant
    divisions/departments (e.g. procurement, accounting) with respect to
    verification and processing of invoices.
  • Maintains contact with
    relevant mission staff with respect to provision, co-ordination,
    monitoring and status of transport services.
  • Follows-up and provides
    updates of ongoing logistics operations and planning as well as
    requisition status on a regular basis.
  • Assists staff within the
    Unit with respect to relevant procedures and practices.
  • Records and monitors
    contract activity. 
  • Organizes, and maintains
    contract files and Unit’s manuals.
  • Maintains and monitors
    relevant databases (e.g. stock levels of various supply items).
  • Generates relevant status
    reports.
  • Performs other duties as
    required.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for
    the United Nations Organisation Stabilization Mission in the Democratic
    Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) Logistics Assistant job placement should
    hold a High school diploma or equivalent
  • Technical or vocational
    certificate in any course related to Administration or Logistics is
    desirable.
  • At least three years
    of  experience in in Logistics
    operations is required.
  • Prior Logistics experience
    with MONUSCO or other UN Agencies is desirable
  • Proficiency
    in encoding of data and in the use of MS Office applications (Excel,
    World, Power point) is desirable.
  • Valid
    national driving license is desirable.
  • Languages:             fluency in oral and written
    English is required.
