dignity to them by providing holistically for their physical, spiritual and
emotional needs. Watoto has operations in Kampala, Wakiso, Mpigi and Gulu.

Job Summary:   The Special Need Coordinator will provide a
Christian Education environment through individualised education plans (IEPs)
for all special needs learners.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Academics

  • Assess
    all recommended and referred learners to identify learning challenges
  • Develop
    individualised education programs for each learner to enhance their
    abilities.
  • To
    keep updated with the education internal and external reforms regarding special
    needs education and, ensure there is communication of the same to school
    administration.
  • Implement
    IEPs, assess pupils’ performance and, track their progress
  • Discuss
    and appraise parents, teachers, village RSW, and, school administration on
    pupil’s progress
  • Record
    keeping of IEPs and, academic meeting sessions held in school, both with
    teachers and other key stakeholders.

Administration

  • To
    generate ideas for the improvement of the school’s special learners’
    education, management and, oversee pupil tracking and reporting.
  • Implement
    and ensure the IEPS are followed, to enable all learners reach their full
    potential
  • Ensure
    adequate supply of learning resources and equipment for the interventions
    to be successful
  • Act
    as a contact person for special education in the school.
  • Conduct
    relevant training for staff to support the special needs learners
  • Attend
    all staff meetings, departmental meetings, school leadership meetings and,
    district special needs-related meetings.

Growth and Development

  • To
    promote and safe guard the welfare of children and young persons and
    ensure they are protected within the CPP organisation guidelines.
  • Maintains
    a familiarity with current education issues through a process of ongoing
    personal development
  • Provides
    periodic trainings to staff regarding trends in special education and,
    continuous sensitization of staff to ensure inclusion of pupils with
    learning challenges and, minimise stigma.
  • Assist
    the deputy- administration in planning innovative programs aimed at
    skilling the pupils and, follow through with their involvement in
    co-curricular activities.
  • Provides
    supportive supervision for teacher improvement specifically in handling
    teaching and learning of special needs

Supervision

  • Support
    the head teacher in teacher supervision to ensure inclusion of special
    learners
