About US:
The UN World Food
Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency against world hunger. It
is the largest and longest serving humanitarian agency in Uganda. Currently WFP
focuses on three priority areas: Saving lives in Emergencies; Building
Resilience through Predictable Safety Nets; Improving Nutrition &
Mother-and Child Health; and Supporting Small Holder Farmers to Access Markets.
WFP has operations in various parts of the Country.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide project management support to the joint (WFP/UNICEF)
Karamoja Nutrition Programme (KNP), ensuring a co-ordinated approach with
wider WFP programmes/projects in Karamoja region; - Lead coordination with UNICEF staff involved in the KNP at Karamoja
level; - Contribute substantial input to development of operational research
questions, project concept notes, and field research guides, as needed; - Help to develop and coordinate research dissemination and follow-up
activities; - Track and analyse programme data to provide input into reporting
activities and contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely
reporting on nutrition activities; - In liaison with UNICEF and partners, undertake regular monitoring
and progress reviews of the KNP ensuring effective collaboration,
timeliness and efficiency and highlight potential risks to the delivery; - Support the identification of potential partners, and partnership
negotiations to ensure a collaborative and holistic approach to meeting
nutrition needs; - Represent the KNP in coordination meetings, staff meetings,
workshops, and meetings with stakeholders; - Participate in nutrition training activities for WFP staff, partners
and national government; - Participate in different nutrition training workshops and
opportunities; - Perform other tasks as may be required.
Key Outcomes:
- Progress reports (monthly, quarterly and review reports) on
implementation of nutrition programmes in Karamoja; - Karamoja nutrition programme joint workplans prepared and shared
periodically; - Concepts and operational research proposals developed to contribute
to evidence building for ongoing nutrition programmes in Karamoja; - Design inputs to Karamoja Nutrition Programme Proposal;
- Synthesized reports on research findings;
- Nutrition programme briefs
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations UN World Food Programme
(WFP) Nutritionist (JPO) job placement should hold an advanced University
degree, or University degree with experience and training/courses, in one
or more of the following disciplines: Nutrition, Public Health, Food
Technology, Medicine or other relevant field; - A minimum of three years of post-graduate, progressively
responsible, relevant experience; - Strong computer skills – proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel,
Powerpoint,Outlook); - Strong interpersonal skills, team spirit and ability to work in a
multicultural setting; - Behavioural competencies as follows: Action Management, Client
Orientation, Cognitive Capacity, Innovation, Partnering and Teamwork. - Below: Above 35
years
Desirable
- Experience in implementation of national/international development
programmes; - Experience working in public health/food security/ nutrition related
activities; - Experience developing partnerships in nutrition and working with
multiple stakeholders with varying viewpoints and agendas; - Experience with Behaviour Change Communication for improving
nutrition outcomes; - Good working knowledge of another official UN language (i.e Arabic,
Chinese, French, Spanish and Russian);
