Job Summary: The Health Specialist (Health in Emergencies)
will support the Ministry of Health (MOH), the National Task Force (NTF),
district task forces (DTF) and subcommittees to plan, implement, monitor and
report EVD preparedness and response activities in Uganda.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support National Taskforce for EVD
preparedness and response; actively coordinate UNICEF-supported activities
with partners namely WHO, UNHCR, URCS and other partners engaged in EVD
preparedness and response activities at national and sub-national level - Participate in Health coordination and
working group meetings at national level and engage with key partners to
increase the effectiveness and efficiency of Health activities; share
relevant update to ensure the effective application of relevant Health in
Emergency programming and tools

Collaborate
with WASH, C4D, and Nutrition units of UNICEF Uganda Office to support updating
the UNICEF EVD prevention and preparedness plan and budget, UNICEF EVD
daily/weekly SITREPs, and other updates related to EVD
- Liaise with WASH staff to support with
effective planning, implementation, monitoring and reporting on Infection
Prevention and Control in health facilities and in communities. - Support UNICEF zone offices and the 30
at risk districts with planning, pre-positioning, distribution and
monitoring of health emergency supplies to achieved EVD prevention and
control. - Support the dissemination of technical
and operational guidance for EVD preparedness and response activities at
UNICEF country office and zonal offices. - Support districts prepare the necessary
supporting documentation to access UNICEF support; ensure appropriate use
of UNICEF resources and timely reporting - Provide health inputs into weekly
progress updates on EVD preparedness and response activities in the
prescribed format - Provide health inputs to rapid needs
assessments, humanitarian performance planning, immediate needs and other
CO documents
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United
Nations UNICEF Health Specialist (Health in Emergencies) job opportunity
should hold an Advanced university degree in Medicine, Health Sciences,
Nursing, Public Health, Health emergencies. - A minimum of five years of professional
experience in the relevant areas of public health, environmental health,
health in emergencies, immunization, outbreaks prevention and management. - Knowledge of Infection Prevention
Control protocols (WHO, CDC) - Preferably experience in controlling
outbreaks of EVD and/or other VHFs - Strong sense of team spirit, diplomacy
- Ability to build and maintain
partnerships across government and NGOs - Innovative and resourceful mindset to
make solutions work in adverse conditions - Ability to work under stressful
conditions and flexible approach in undertaking his assignment within a
rapidly changing environment. - Position is open to Uganda nationals
