ACODEV is an NGO
that was established in 2003 and fully registered by government of Uganda.
Initially founded as a self funded health program to fill service delivery gap
in communities during the political insurgency in the Rwenzori region of
Western Uganda that witnessed human rights abuses, gender based violence,
breakdown in social and health systems; ACODEV has grown and expanded its
programs for the benefit of communities targeting children and youth in various
districts of Uganda. Today we have presence in more than 28 districts in
Western, Central and Northern regions of Uganda. We are spreading our wings
with different innovative development and humanitarian programs to other parts
of Uganda, East and Southern Africa.

ACODEV envisions a
society where children, women and men are happy, healthy and economically
productive.

Job Summary:   The Project Coordinator plays an important
team and project support function within Action for Community Development
(ACODEV’s) large, complex, and fast paced Department of Health. The Program
Coordinator is responsible for providing cross-cutting administrative and
operational support to the Family Planning Health team and its project, which
encompasses providing technical leadership to the team in implementation of
family planning project in Adjumani district. The Coordinator works in close
collaboration with relevant department and project specific team members,
Knowledge Management staff, and others across the department and Organization
to ensure his/her team and key stakeholders receive the necessary support to
work effectively and efficiently. To achieve this goal, the Coordinator will
promote actions in accordance with ACODEV’s policies and procedures, with calm
professionalism, an eye towards efficiency, and the enthusiasm to constantly
learn, teach, and support others in a collaborative way.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

Planning and
implementation of project activities

  • Prepare annual, quarterly, and monthly work plans, conduct monthly
    follow-up meetings with project stake-holders (main health facilities)
    VHTs, champions, role model men and DHOs office and ensure timely monthly
    reporting from the field.
  • Ensure timely preparation and implementation of planned activities.
  • Work closely with the VHTs and champions in each Sub-County to
    ensure their timely planning, implementation, recording and reporting of
    project activities.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with government, partners, and local
    organizations through:
  • Facilitating collaboration with health facility staff, District
    Health Officer, and sub-district health in-charge, CHWs, and other key
    health staff for the provision of quality services, ensuring stock and
    supply of commodities, coordination and support of FP health outreaches.
  • Working with key stakeholders to identify and reach poorest and
    marginalized communities for inclusion in FP/RH services.
  • Coordinate the joint District Health Team monitoring activities and
    document outcomes for action
  • Participate in Quarterly District Health partners meetings and take
    up actions to improve SRHS provision
  • Coordinate and manage logistics, in conjunction with the Program
    Manager to ensure efficient supply chain for FP commodities to all project
    target facilities in Adjumani.
  • Work with other partners in the SRH field to identify best practices
    that can be replicated in the project to achieve the project results.
  • Monitor and mentor Community Health Worker and Health Facility
    community outreach activities and overall project activities.
  • Track progress of the overall project to ensure timely
    implementation of activities.
  • Monitor and mentor VHT/FP-champions services and acknowledge quality
    services
  • Track project activities to support meeting timely reporting
    requirements for funders.
  • Communicate directly with the Program Manager to ensure progress
    against M&E indicators
  • Offer a supervisory role to Project Officers, M&E officer,
    Health Center In-charges and Lead VHTs and FP champions directly involved
    in the project to ensure effective delivery of FP services
  • Coordinate the trainings of project stakeholders including VHTs,
    Health workers, VHTs and FP champions
  • Coordinate Community dialogues to improve uptake of Long Acting and
    permanent methods
  • Coordinate the mentorships of VHTs and health workers on FP, PPIUDs
    and cervical cancer screening
  • Work with the Program Manager to develop and disseminate quality
    assurance strategies to direct and guide service providers and community
    health workers.
  • Participate in development, implementation and follow-up of all
    project related training activities
  • Develop and maintain contacts with health and family planning
    professionals and governmental authorities, to identify and address
    reproductive health and family planning issues, and develop related
    services within the project target areas.
  • Conduct monthly site visits, review the programming and
    implementation of ongoing project activities, prepare reports, make
    recommendations and conduct follow-up.
  • Be responsible for accountability of all project advances made to
    him or her in field activity implementation.
  • Participate in fundraising and resource mobilization including
    proposal writing for similar projects on family planning and reproductive
    health under ACODEV.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the Project Coordinator (PC) career
    opportunity should hold a University degree in Nursing with Reproductive
    health experience and Family Planning training. Public health, or related
    field (a Master’s degree is preferred)
  • Possession of a relevant Post graduate qualification is an added
    advantage
  • At least three years’ experience and working knowledge in senior
    program management
  • Possess excellent skills and experience in M&E, advocacy, report
    writing, participatory planning, financial management, Human Resource
    Management.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Computer literacy skills i.e. proficiency in Email, word processing,
    spreadsheets
  • Both a team player as well as able to work independently with minimum
    supervision.
