Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS (UNAIDS) is the main advocate for
accelerated, comprehensive and coordinated global action on the HIV/AIDS
pandemic. The mission of UNAIDS is to lead, strengthen and support an expanded
response to HIV and AIDS that includes preventing transmission of HIV,
providing care and support to those already living with the virus, reducing the
vulnerability of individuals and communities to HIV and alleviating the impact
of the epidemic. UNAIDS seeks to prevent the HIV/AIDS epidemic from becoming a
severe pandemic.

innovative United Nations partnership that leads and inspires the world in
achieving universal access to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.
UNAIDS’ Cosponsors include UNHCR, UNICEF, WFP, UNDP, UNFPA, UNODC, UN Women,
ILO, UNESCO, WHO and the World Bank.
Job Summary:  The Driver provides reliable and safe driving
services to the operations and program staff (including consultants) in the
Office. Drive official vehicles for the transport of UNAIDS staff, officials
and visitors, meeting personnel and visitors at the airport and assisting them
with basic visa and customs formalities when required; and ensure the delivery
and collection of mail, documents and other items.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through adequate
    maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of
    the vehicle maintenance plans and reports, as well as the proper
    day-to-day maintenance, including minor repairs, arrangements for major
    repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes and water levels,
    car washing, etc so that the vehicle is clean and in good running
    condition at all times.
  • Safe-keep all the required documents/supplies such as insurance,
    registration papers, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the
    city/country, first aid kit, and other spare parts, as well as keeping
    track of insurance and other tax formalities.
  • As required, provide informal interpretation services from/to the
    local language for the head of the office and official personnel using the
    car.
  • Provide general office assistance to office staff, including but not
    limited to filing, photocopying and maintaining stocks of stationary; in
    the mailing and distribution of newsletters and publications; payments of
    office telephone and other bills, as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, including provision of
    support as required.



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV and AIDS
    (UNAIDS) Driver job should have completed secondary school, or relevant
    technical or vocational training. Must have a valid and clean driver’s
    license.
  • Training or demonstrated knowledge of vehicle mechanic.        
  • At least two years’ experience as driver of officials in an
    international institution, governmental organization, embassy or UN system
    with an excellent knowledge of the local traffic rules, regulations and
    geography.
  • Languages: A good
    knowledge of English, together with that of the local language. Knowledge
    of another UN official language.
