About US:

The Makerere
University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit HIV research program
that was established in 2002 as a result of a memorandum of understanding
between Makerere University and The Henry M. Jackson foundation for Advancement
of Military Medicine Inc. of USA (HJF). The primary purpose of MUWRP is to
develop, evaluate and provide interventions to mitigate disease threats of
public health importance to Uganda.

Job Summary:  The Medical Social worker will support the
MUWRP PEPFAR program to coordinate and monitor provision of community and
facility level services for children and adolescents with a focus on leveraging
the orphans and vulnerable children program for improved clinical outcomes of
children in care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Effectively engage and supervise CBOs to
    support implementation of the OVC program to provide a comprehensive OVC
    program package, avoid service duplication and overlaps and achieve
    program OVC targets.
  • Supervise and engage facilities to
    functionalize comprehensive pediatric and adolescent facility-based
    programs that leverage the community OVC programs to receive complementary
    packages to support clinical management.
  • Guide utilization and reporting on the
    OVC program graduation bench marks.
  • To establish apprentice and social
    economic strengthening enterprises to support sustainable OVC program
    implementation.
  • Support systematic roll out of ECD
    program implementation.
  • Improve tracking and reporting on OVC
    performance indicators across the program to assess the program’s
    contribution to the clinical cascade and obtain data beyond the OVCMIS
  • Plan for the OVC transition
  • Liaise with MoGLSD and relevant
    district-based structures to support monitoring and reporting of OVC
    programs.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate must hold a degree
    in Social Work and Social Administration, Social Sciences, or any other
    related field
  • Post-graduate level training in
    children, youth and adolescent programming.
  • Ability to professionally communicate in
    writing and verbally or other means deemed appropriate.
  • Ability to travel on water, work in a
    rural setting and reside in Kayunga.
