of thousands of people have been kills and over 1.6 million displaced.
Following a peace agreement in 2006, Ugandans are returning home and looking to
rebuild their lives. The IRC is there to protect women and children from
violence and exploitation by fostering a safe environment and encouraging
education, and is supporting farmers and small businesses, and helping
communities promote peace and long-term development.
Job Summary: The Laboratory Assistant will be responsible
for drawing blood from patients (both children and adults) and ensure that the
appropriately labelled blood samples are submitted in a safe and controlled
manner for testing. He/she must follow safe-practice guidelines at all times,
clean all equipment as required, and keep equipment, reagents and samples tidy,
properly labelled and in their allocated places. She/he maintains high
standards of courtesy towards patients, clients, staff, volunteers and visitors
and must adhere to IRC policies on health and safety.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist
in the collection, labelling and documentation of all laboratory samples and
ensure proper storage while they are on site.
·
Ensure
that blood samples are appropriately labelled and submitted for testing and
that the necessary entry is submitted to the Laboratory Data Clerk.
·
Maintain
appropriate and accurate records of all the tests and the results
·
Receive
patients (both children and adults) sent for bleeding at the laboratory, and to
draw blood from them for the purpose of performing laboratory tests
·
Assist
with arrangements for the transportation of samples to other laboratories when
necessary.
·
Maintain
high standards of courtesy to all staff, volunteers, patients, clients and
visitors.
·
Clean all
equipment that has been used, to perform all maintenance procedures necessary
to ensure that equipment is kept in accurate working order, and to report all
faults to the Head of Laboratory.
·
Maintain
tidiness in the laboratory, ensuring that equipment, samples and reagents are
properly labeled and kept in their allocated places.
·
Adhere
to all safety policies and best practice guidelines and the rules of the
laboratory.
·
Assist
in the maintenance of stock items and in all other ways delegated by the Head
of Laboratory that may be necessary to the proper functioning of the
laboratory.

Participate
in all training, as organized by but with the knowledge and agreement of the
laboratory
·
Participate
in all the CMEs as appropriate in liaison with the Head of Laboratory.
·
Promote
the vision, mission and the values of IRC as expressed in the policies,
regulations & guidelines of the Organization.
·
Ensure
health, safety, and security in your area of operation
·
Any
other duties in your job jurisdiction assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
·
The
ideal candidate must hold a Certificate in medical laboratory
·
Registered
and Licensed with the allied Health council
·
At least
two (2) years’ working experience in a laboratory field in a cross-cultural setting
·
