Job Summary:    The Child Protection Officer will ensure
quality implementation of the Child protection thematic area in synergy with
the larger protection and community services components which constitute the
overall FCA programme in Bidibidi. The CP Officer is also responsible for
representing FCA in any relevant field based thematic meetings with
stakeholders and otherwise as needed. In addition, he/She will be responsible
for complying with donors and internal FCA reporting and accountability policy
and procedures. He/she is also tasked with providing technical assistance and
guidance to mainstream protection across all the community based mechanisms at
the field level. The CP officer is also responsible to develop/strengthen relationships
with agencies – at the field level.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Implement the FCA child protection
    policy and procedures.
  • Encourage good practice by promoting and
    championing the child protection policy and procedures.
  • Monitor and review the child protection
    policy and procedures to ensure they remain current and fit for purpose.
  • Raise awareness of the Code of Conduct
    for working with children to parents/carers, adults and children.
  • Challenge behaviour which breaches the
    Code of Conduct
  • Keep abreast of developments in the
    field of child protection by liaising with the Other child protection
    actors, attending relevant training or events
  • Establish and maintain contact with
    local statutory agencies including the police and social services.
  • Respond appropriately to disclosures or
    concerns which relate to the well-being of a child.
  • Maintain confidential records of
    reported cases and action taken
  • Ensure that all the CP protection
    approaches and tools are developed in synergy with the overall FCA’s
    national based protection initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of
    advocacy points based on assessment of situation and risks related to
    children.
  • Proactively contribute to quality and
    timely monthly, quarterly and annual reports
  • Ensure daily quality implementation,
    monitoring and evaluation of child protection- related projects and
    interventions in Bidibidi.
  • Assist in organizing and delivering
    protection trainings and promoting the refugee laws on the rights of
    children.
  • Maintain close contacts with local
    authorities and RWCs in the refugee settlement; intervene as and when
    necessary to protect children.
  • Support innovative problem solving and
    strategy development to address complex issues  relating to the safety and wellbeing of
    children and their families.
  • Assess the knowledge and utilization of
    health and other services available for the children.
  • Oversee the daily quality
    implementation, monitoring and evaluation of Child

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant for the Finn Church Aid
    (FCA) Child Protection Officer job must hold a University degree in Child
    protection, Social sciences, development studies, guidance and counselling
    or relevant fields.
  • At least two years of experience working
    with vulnerable communities, basic needs and distribution programming
    experience, and/or advocacy programs. 
  • Professional training in Gender based
    violence in emergency
  • Experience in protection interventions
    in line with Refugees operation
  • Good communication skills and ability to
    conduct training and awareness
  • Computer skills.
  • Good organizational and management
    skills
