Uganda Electricity
Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) is a Public Limited Liability Company
incorporated in March 2001 under the Companies Act (Cap 110), the Laws of
Uganda and in conformity with the Electricity Act, 1999. UEGCL started
operation on 1st April 2001 and is wholly owned by the Government of the
Republic of Uganda, with the head office located in Kampala. The mandate of
UEGCL is to establish, acquire, maintain and operate electricity generation
facilities as well as promote Research and Development in the Electricity
generation sector while running the company on sound business principals.
Job Summary: The Mechanical Fitter shall perform a variety
of maintenance and utility fitter duties consistent with the operation of UEGCL
to ensure that the mechanical elements in the power plant run smoothly to
generate power. The duties shall include but not limited to maintenance, repair
and overhaul of a variety of plant equipment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Correctly use and maintain PPE at all
times, use and maintain workshop tools in accordance with the work
specifications and conditions. - Maintain excellent levels of housekeeping
- Perform complete maintenance, repair and
overhaul of plant equipment, auxiliary turbines and related equipment,
including governors, pressure relays, bearings, couplings, control valves,
over speed tripping mechanisms, turbine diaphragms and related equipment. - Maintain accurate and complete
maintenance records for the work performed. - Troubleshoot and diagnose system
malfunctions and in coordination with the Maintenance Supervisor, outline
a repair strategy for major works. - Under the supervision of a Mechanical
Technician, install, test and commission mechanical machinery, equipment,
systems and processes to meet the requirements of the power plant. - Under instructions from the Mechanical
Technician, investigate equipment failures and difficulties to diagnose
faulty operations and come up with recommendations for maintenance crew. - Perform routine maintenance and repairs
at the power plant and make reports to the Mechanical Technician for the
planning of long outages and overhauls. - Ensuring that safety precautions are
followed in the place of work. - Provides engineering support by
responding to requests for electrical problems. - Checking mechanical/electrical material
stock to determine inventory levels and anticipating needed supplies. - Perform other related duties as
required, and/or assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate must hold a Higher
National Technical Diploma in Mechanical, manufacturing process control or
related field. - Other relevant certificates in other
fields of engineering such as mechatronics, automation etc. is an added
advantage - At least three years of working at a
power plant, heavy manufacturing Industry, processing plant, a major
repair workshop or similar work places are needed for this position. - Excellent communication skills
- Ability to use precision instruments
such as Vernier callipers, surface and depth gauges, dial indicators and
related maintenance equipment. - Skill in the use of torque wrenches,
pipe cutting, threading, gas/electric welding, hydraulic press, lathe,
power saws, drill press, grinders, and shapers. - Skill in the use of testing and measuring
devices including micrometres and mechanical analysis vibration equipment
for the process of diagnosing, repairing and testing equipment and systems
used to align rotors such as shafts, pumps, and fans, etc. - Analytical and problem -solving skills
- Good report writing skills
- Good interpersonal skills
