About US:

Uganda Electricity
Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) is a Public Limited Liability Company
incorporated in March 2001 under the Companies Act (Cap 110), the Laws of
Uganda and in conformity with the Electricity Act, 1999. UEGCL started
operation on 1st April 2001 and is wholly owned by the Government of the
Republic of Uganda, with the head office located in Kampala. The mandate of
UEGCL is to establish, acquire, maintain and operate electricity generation
facilities as well as promote Research and Development in the Electricity
generation sector while running the company on sound business principals.

Job Summary:  The Electrical Fitter, under the supervision
of an Electrical Technician will ensure that the electrical elements in the
power plant run smoothly to generate power. The incumbent checks electrical
machines and machine components, tests their efficiency and makes repairs
wherever necessary and suggests improvement to machines for better performance.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Obtain measurements and readings using
    electrical and mechanical testing instruments, including digital multi
    meters, meggers, amp meters, ohm meters, and phase rotation meters.
  • Coordinate maintenance work with other
    sections, contractors, and engineers; estimate time, materials, and
    equipment required for repairs.
  • Examine various electrical systems and
    make recommendations for new equipment, repairs, and modifications.
  • Maintain records of maintenance and
    repair work; prepare reports, documentation, and correspondence.
  • Perform installation of electrical
    conduit, equipment, branch circuits, and lighting. Hence install,
    maintain, test, and repair plant lighting and electrical equipment.
  • Inspect electrical installations to
    determine maintenance requirements and procedures.
  • Assist staff with information regarding
    electrical systems within the plant and off-site locations.
  • Install electrical equipment such as
    meters, instruments, relays and protection equipment, controllers,
    switchgears, switchboards, transformers and control panels.
  • Carry out mechanical fitting and
    assembling works relevant to heavy current equipment, and machine or
    fabricate parts for such equipment
  • Correctly instruct, supervise and
    transfer skill to any apprentice and semi-skilled worker assigned to him
    to ensure safety and quality of work.
  • Execution of the preventative
    maintenance programs, as shall be instructed by the Electrical Technician.
  • Ready to work in continuous improvement
    culture in the maintenance of the power plant using engineering
    principles.
  • Keep plant/equipment performance and
    repair records to enable quality assessment
  • Works closely with fellow workers in all
    aspects of their work.
  • Perform other related duties as
    required, and/or assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant must hold a Higher
    National Technical Diploma Electrical or Electronic engineering,
    manufacturing process control or related field.
  • Other relevant certificates in other
    fields of engineering such as mechatronics, automation etc. is an added
    advantage.
  • At least three years of working at a
    power plant, heavy manufacturing Industry, processing plant, a major
    repair workshop or similar work places are needed for this position.
  • Excellent knowledge regarding machines,
    spare parts, operations and maintenance
  • Excellent observation skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Broad understanding and knowledge
    regarding safety measures
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem
    solving abilities
  • Ability to work under stress and be on
    call at any time
  • Ability to work in a team hands on as
    well as lead it
  • Must be highly organized, systematic and
    precise in work
  • Good computer skills in related software
    application
  • Good report writing skills
  • Good interpersonal skills
