Job Summary: The Program Associate – Livestock Production
will support the community planning, implementation and monitoring of
GCP/UGA/055/SWE project entitled “Climate Resilient Women Economic Empowerment
(CRWEE)”, funded by the Government of Sweden. This projects aim to strengthen
key government institutions at central and decentralized levels and build the
resilience of communities in the face of a changing climate. Under the overall
guidance of the FAO Representative in Uganda and in close collaboration with
the Deputy FAO Representative and the Project Manager, the Program Associate
will be under the direct supervision of a Program Officer &Field
Coordinator for West Nile regions of Uganda. The Program Associate will provide
support to the CRWEE project team in planning, implementing and monitoring
household livestock raising practices being promoted through the project.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide advice on what practices are the most resilient to climate
change depending on the local context. - Provide support in the development of the Agro-Pastoral /Farmer
Field School trainings to ensure that proper livestock management
practices are included in AP/FFS trainings - In cooperation with the respective target District Veterinary ./
Livestock Officers as well as staffs at the Livestock Division, MAAIF,
take part in planning and implementing community-based adaptation measures
for livestock in the cattle corridor - Undertake frequent field visits to the project sites in order to
supervise, provide technical advice and monitor the progress of the
establishments of community based
adaptation measures for livestock - Assist the extension workers of MAAIF and other implementing
partners (IPs) in providing technical assistance services, in particular,
the pastoralist groups involved in the SIDA project. - Support coordination and information sharing with the District
Veterinary. and Livestock Officers (DLO), especially to ensure timely
delivery livestock adaptation measures - Compile and submit on a regular basis progress reports to the Head
of Field Office on the progress in implementation of project activities in
the field; - Participate actively in the planning, implementation and monitoring
of project activities related to livestock production component. - Working closely other technical specialists to ensure that various
field project interventions are aligned to achieve desired outcomes. - Perform any other related tasks
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Food and Agriculture Organization of the
United Nations (FAO) Program Associate – Livestock Production job
opportunity should hold a University Degree in agriculture (Animal
science/ Livestock Production), Veterinary Medicine or related fields. - At least three years of relevant experience in Crop Production,
Climate Smart Agriculture or related fields. - Working knowledge of English.
- National of Uganda
- Extent of experience and
knowledge in livestock production with farmers and organized farmer groups - Extent and relevance of experience and knowledge on climate change
- Extent of knowledge and experiences in working with various
stakeholders in Uganda including UN, Government, NGOs, private sector,
academics, and others - Writing and communication skills
- Ability to manage a high workload, meet tight deadlines and
multi-task under pressure - Extent of experience with international organizations,
non-government institutions/organizations, and donors in a multi-cultural
setting. - Extent of experience in more than one location or area of work
