Resilience through Predictable Safety Nets; Improving Nutrition &
Mother-and Child Health; and Supporting Small Holder Farmers to Access Markets.
WFP has operations in various parts of the Country.
Job Summary: The IT Associate will support the IT unit at
Mbarara Area Office encompassing three satellite offices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and coordinate a team of IT Support staff for Mbarara Area
Office including the capacity building of staff, to ensure individual and
team objectives are met in compliance with all relevant regulations and
policies; - Organise and provide training and advice to Mbarara staff and end
users of IT services, understand and resolve issues and ensure IT
policies, procedures, systems and tools are correctly applied to assist
WFP staff in conducting their work; - Coordinate the preparation of Standard Office Procedures (SoPs)
regarding technical elements of running the new food collection procedures
based on biometric verification of beneficiaries; - Coordinate the collection of a range of complex data such as post
distribution beneficiary data; - Conduct data analysis including the Impact of changes and support the
development of accurate reports to identify and recommend solutions; - Oversee the maintenance of systems and hardware by junior technology
assistants to ensure technology is running effectively for WFP staff; - Develop and deploy a variety of documentation and equipment for use
by WFP to ensure staff have access to the required IT services and
products. Ensure that sufficient stocks of equipment are available for the
Mbarara Area Office needs; - Monitor the quality of Information Services provided by ISPs to the
Mbarara Area Office ; ensure that Service Level Agreements are adhered to
and that any penalties due to WFP are met by the service provider; - Manage the implementation of new standard applications in order to
provide WFP staff with the tools they need to perform effectively; - Plan and supervise monthly food and cash distributions ensuring that
appropriate IT systems and personnel are deployed to support the
transfers; - Provide support to users, log and analyse all requests for support
in accordance with standard processes, to support staff to deliver their
services. Make timely escalations of outstanding IT issues to Country
Office in Kampala or the Regional Bureau in Nairobi; - Support the development and implementation of plans for the delivery
of a full range of IT services and improvements to methods and processes
to meet operational requirements; - Follow set emergency response processes and procedures as required
to provide support in enabling emergency food assistance needs to be met; - Any other duties assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations UN World Food Programme
(WFP) IT Associate job placement should a Bachelor’s university degree
obtained from a recognised education institution in any of the following
areas: Information Technology, Computer Science, Computer Engineering,
Information Systems or any IT related field; - A minimum of four (4) years of relevant working experience;
- Experience in managing IT professionals;
- Previous experience in coaching, training and mentoring junior staff
to build their capacity; - Experience in Microsoft Active Directory Infrastructure and
Microsoft Suite of Applications such as Office 365 and Teams; - Prior participation in business process re-engineering efforts and
identification of service management improvements; - Knowledge of ITIL foundations and Microsoft systems Engineering in
an added advantage - Fluency in both oral and written communication in English.
- Previous experience in supporting small IT offices and IT personnel
will be an added advantage..
Desired
- Has experience resolving more complex technical issues.
- Has worked with head of units in defining requirements for
functional area. - Has experience with the application of client services standards to
resolve or escalate clients’ service problems.

- Governance, Strategy and Architecture: Demonstrates awareness of overall IT
governance structure and system architecture development to support the
process and assist in design of interaction between systems. - Change Implementation, Project management, Planning and
Optimization: Has basic
understanding of project management principles to provide basic estimates
on timing, resource utilisation and costs to facilitate the project
planning process. - Technical Expertise: Continuously updates one’s own knowledge about new technologies and
product modifications; Is sought out for advice/expertise and recognized
internally as an important technical reference. - Service Management:
Understands and follows the established standards and protocols for
service excellence within own domain to maintain quality of delivery and
high levels of customer satisfaction. - Client Management: Exhibits
a detailed understanding of customers’ IT requests in order to effectively
address and manage internal customers ‘needs. Identifies recurrent issues
to propose long-term solutions. - Procurement and Contract Management: Assists in the technology selection
process by collating information on vendors and/or products for evaluation
against criteria.
