M-KOPA Solar is the
global leader of “pay-as-you-go” energy for off-grid customers. Since its
commercial launch in October 2012, M-KOPA has connected more than 600,000 homes
in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda to solar power, and is now adding over 500 new
homes each day. The success of M-KOPA (M= mobile, KOPA= to borrow) stems from
making solar products affordable to low-income households on a pay-per-use
installment plan. Customers acquire solar systems for a small deposit and then
purchase daily usage “credits” for US $0.45, or less than the price of
traditional kerosene lighting. After one year of payments customers own their
solar systems outright and can upgrade to more power.

Job Summary: The Territory Sales Manager will sell M-KOPA’s TV solar home systems in
the Kampala Region. The Territory Sales Manager will ensure that the research
and development of new products add value to (and do not distract from) its
core business, M-KOPA is establishing the M-KOPA Labs. The Labs will be a
dedicated business unit within M-KOPA that will define and test extensions of
the M-KOPA asset-based credit model for off-grid-power to new products and
services.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Deliver against set sales targets for TV solar home system.
  • Recruit, train, coach, mentor & supervise field-based scouts and
    use them to penetrate the Kampala area for TV sales.
  • Manage inventory assigned and resolve audit recommendations in line
    with M-KOPA audit resolution guidelines.
  • Uphold the brand values of M-KOPA, including ensuring the M-KOPA
    retail point standard and guidelines are adhered to.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the M-KOPA Solar Territory Sales Manager
    career placement must have sales experience, ideally from micro-finance or
    other financial services, FMCG, solar or other product/service in East
    Africa
    .
  • Five years’ experience as a manager.
  • Experience selling in a competitive environment and effective
    territory management skills are preferred.
  • Must be willing and able to travel extensively within assigned
    territory and work evenings/weekends.
  • Experience in coordinating promotions is desired
  • Excellent negotiation, communication and people’s skills
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to work calmly under pressure

Compensation: A
stipend will be provided. The bulk of compensation will be variable based on
sales
.
