Job Summary:  The Communications Assistant will provide
input to the design, management and implementation of the Country Office
communications and publication strategies as well as provide administrative
support to the media and communications coordinator. Editing and writing
program materials will be an important part of your job. In this role, you
should be an excellent communicator with strong attention to detail.
Administrative and social media marketing experience is key. Ultimately, your
goal will be to help ensure clear communication of our Organization’s message
across all channels.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the communications coordinator to create and manage a
    digital strategy
  • Plan, coordinate, produce and distribute the monthly newsletter to
    key stakeholders (internal and external)
  • Manage and update social media platforms with a clear social media
    content plan and compelling digital products
  • Coordinate with program teams to provide content for the website and
    other platforms
  • Monitor, gather press clippings and create press books including
    providing internal updates
  • Closely work with program and project teams to gather and write
    human interest and news stories
  • Provide input and advise around communications plans and messaging
    where appropriate.
  • Identify and prepare program/project storylines for publications
  • Support in the administrative and logistic part of the
    communications role including supporting key visits to the program,
    reviewing IEC materials
  • Liaise with printers and other suppliers to ensure production of
    different materials is in line with branding guidelines
  • Manage and update words and pictures and other photo platforms
  • Compile and share weekly updates including weekly tweets
  • Generate and maintain a partner emailing and supporter data base
  • Manage and ensure the resource centre is updated regularly and put
    to good use.
  • Work closely with the humanitarian communications officer to ensure
    content including photos, stories is shared on the Oxfam platforms after
    clear sign off.
  • Manage internal branding with the support of the communications
    coordinator including ensuring proper usage of the branded material.
  • Support the media and communications role as required
  • Support the Communication coordinator to implement communication
    activities and tools such as: Press releases, Press conferences, Press
    activities at events and Press requests.
  • Act as support for the production of videos and other related IEC
    products
  • Maintain effective information management systems
  • Support in seeking ways to creatively communicate our work, enabling
    the exploitation of new media and online opportunities such as blogging
    and broadcast technologies.
  • Support in media relations and maintaining and keeping the media
    lists updated.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant for the Oxfam Communications Assistant must hold a
    Bachelor’s degree in Communications or a related field
  • Proven experience as a Communications Assistant, Communication
    Specialist or similar role
  • Understanding of the media, and digital media strategies
  • Proficient in MS Office; familiarity with design software (e.g.
    Photoshop, InDesign) and content management systems is a plus
  • Experience working across teams to establish digital needs and co-
    designing digital products
  • Skills in writing for different platforms
  • Solid editorial experience
  • Experience in sourcing, coordinating and publishing website content
    including experience in using SEO to improve search rankings
  • Good understanding of the digital marketing landscape
  • Ability to research, establish and maintain relationships with
    journalists/members/public officials.
  • Fluent written and spoken English
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Flexibility, ability to multitask, detail-orientated and positive
    attitude to work.
  • Exercising initiative and meet strict deadlines with the ability to
    prioritise.
  • Enthusiastic team player.
  • A good understanding of working in agile environments
  • Demonstrating ability to solve problems, remain focused, available
    and flexible.
