Job Summary:  The Market Risk Analyst is responsible for the
management and oversight of all market risk arising within the Global Markets
business. Market risk arises in both the banking books (interest rate risk) and
trading books.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • The AR Market Risk analyst will play a role in shaping the function,
    delivering on ‘change the bank’ (CTB) initiatives and for running it in
    ‘business as usual’
  • Daily market risk reporting, analysis and commentary including
    weekly review of back-testing failures. This includes VaR measurement, VaR
    proxy decisions, collating of historic data, discussion of risk positions
    and changes with traders, reviewing of limits based on liquidity, design
    and implementation of appropriate market risk reports, reporting to ALCO,
    regulatory market risk capital and economic capital reporting.
  • Ensuring accuracy and appropriateness of the valuation models and
    liaise with Market Risk Hub and model validation teams for assistance on
    quantitative matters.
  • Limits and trigger monitoring
  • Profit & Loss attribution analysis, provision reporting, price
    verification and liaison with finance on reconciliation of reported
    results
  • Reviewing and stress testing the bank’s risk profile to ensure that
    businesses are within allocated limits
  • Review and research of economic indicators and discussion of
    positioning ahead of possible market moves to maximise/minimise
    risk-reward
  • Preparation of risk reports and presentations for tabling at Country
    ALCO
  • Support the bank’s New Product Development Process by participating
    in the ‘New Product roll-outs’
  • Providing change management and implementation of appropriate
    controls.
  • Provide back-up role for the market risk function in another country
    in the AR region.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for the Stanbic Bank Market Risk Analyst job
    should hold a B.Com degree and/or Quantitative degree
  • Two to three years of work experience
  • Exposure to treasury/derivative products, project management and
    IT.  An understanding of the
    objectives and operations of Market Risk Department would be an advantage
  • Understand the treasury processes (front office, middle office, back
    office, risk) associated with treasury/derivative products
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office
  • Microsoft Excel VBA will be added advantage
  • Strong analytical and financial skills
  • An appreciation and a good understanding of macroeconomics and
    external factors affecting the business strategies adopted, and market
    serviced by the Bank.
  • A self-starter who is action orientated with energy and drive
  • Highly organised and decisive with the ability to escalate issues,
    where appropriate, to the Regional Head of Market Risk
  • Strong command of English language.
  • Have a flexible approach, independent minded, tough yet balanced
    decision maker, calm under pressure with the ability to prioritise and delegate
  • Ability to multi task, network and to be able to communicate with
    people at different levels
  • Be focused on delivery and results, and able to work to deadlines
  • Ability to be analytical and to solve problems
