founded in 1897 in Kampala, and is the oldest hospital in Uganda. It currently
serves as an urban community hospital that provides modern medical care. Mengo
Hospital provides comprehensive care including radiology, obstetrics,
dentistry, orthopedics, and surgery. Additionally, Mengo Hospital provides
critical training and education to health professionals through its various
programs in midwifery and nursing, health sciences, and laboratory technology.
Mengo Hospital also has a dedicated research and development team that works to
find new solutions to health issues in Uganda.
Job Summary: The Clerk of Works will be responsible for
the day-to-day supervision of the hospital project works. Role holder shall be
responsible for managing quality during construction, adherence to approved
construction practices and reporting on the level of deployment of the
contractor s personnel and consultant s site team. The Clerk of works is to
maintain full time presence on site, and will directly report to the Hospital
Administrator on the daily progress of works at assigned sites and locations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Inspecting the work on site and comparing it with drawings and
specifications. Inspections could be at heights or underground and may
include specialized aspects of construction - Measuring and sampling building materials to check their quality,
identify any defects and suggest ways to correct them. Ensure that only
the approved materials are used during constructions - Monitoring and reporting on progress to supervisor and management,
managers, architects and clients. - Keeping detailed records and accurately reporting to supervisor as
may be required, on pertinent issues. - Liaising with contractors, engineers and surveyors
- Checking that standards, building regulations, health and safety and
legal requirements are met - You may be based at one site for the duration of a project, or
travel between sites to carry out inspections and meet contractors. - Verification of quantifies of materials received on site and used on
the project by signing on the site delivery notes - Ensure proper handling and storage materials on site by the
contractor - Monitor and ensure that the required standards of quality and
accuracy of work and materials are maintained. - Monitor that all construction work is accomplished as required in
accordance with the approved work program, and where not, the causes of
delays are recorded, and report timely to Hospital Administrator.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold an ordinary diploma in Construction, Civil
and Building Engineering, or related course. A higher diploma or degree in
the same fields will be added advantage - At least five years of working experience in supervision of works
related to big construction projects - Should be proficient in writing and fluent speaking in English
language - Must have experience of working in Uganda
- Good interpersonal, communication and public relations skills.
- A proven integrity record
