The Office of the
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was established on December 14,
1950 by the United Nations General Assembly. UNHCR’s mandate under the Statute
of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees is to lead
and co-ordinate action for international protection to refugees; seek permanent
solutions for the problems of refugees and safeguard refugee rights and
well-being. UNHCR has an additional mandate concerning issues of statelessness,
as it is given a designated role under Article 11 of the 1961 Convention on the
Reduction of Statelessness.

Job Summary:  The Senior Reporting Assistant will work
within the External Relations Unit and general guidance and support will be
received from the External Relations Officer. Guidance may also be given by the
various specialised units in the office. Within UNHCR the incumbent will be in
close contacts with all sections to gather and analyse information. The Senior
Reporting Assistant will be in contact with all implementing partners and UN
agencies to gather, analyse and disseminate information about UNHCR activities.
Accurate and well-presented information will promote UNHCR action for refugees,
contribute to good decision making, and help for fund raising. Errors can lead
to inappropriate action, and impact negatively on UNHCR image and affect
funding raising efforts.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Stay abreast with the operational developments and assist in the
    preparation of briefing notes and reports.
  • Assist in the development of funding submissions, appeals and
    reports.
  • Track earmarked donor contributions including preparing progress
    reports on earmarked contributions.
  • Assist in consolidating and providing inputs for donor reports and
    ensuring reporting requirements are fulfilled accurately and in a timely
    manner.
  • Work closely with the various Units as well as Programme units and
    the Field Offices to gather accurate information about beneficiaries and
    UNHCR assistance activities.
  • Assist to meet and brief visitors on all UNHCR activities, where
    necessary together with appropriate specialist/ programme officers.
  • Assist in consolidation of data and facilitate the preparation of
    periodic reports including Sitreps, Fact Sheets and other activity
    specific reports.
  • Maintain working relationships with the Government, NGOs, and UN
    agencies to develop cooperation in inter-related activities.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Enforce compliance with the reporting requirements.

Key Result Areas: Accurate and well- presented information is provided to promote UNHCR
actions for the persons of concern and to raise funds.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate for the United Nations UNHCR Senior Reporting
    Assistant job placement should have completed Secondary education courses/
    training/ certificate in Business Administration, Social Science,
    International Law or related field.
  • At least four years of previous job experience relevant to the
    function.

  • Ability to develop rapport internally and externally in a
    multicultural environment.
