Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Participating in the formulation of policies and strategies intended
    to promote safety and efficiency of water transport;
  • Participating in the development of Merchant Safety Shipping
    Regulations;
  • Supervising manning of vessels, qualifications and training of
    seafarers and issuance of relevant certificates related to manning of
    vessels;
  • Assisting in the planning, monitoring and evaluation of training
    programs against any maritime conventions;
  • Assisting in the management of training, recruitment and welfare of
    Ugandan seafarers;
  • Participating in dealing with prevention of collisions of ships and
    safety of navigation, through installation of Aids to Navigation and their
    maintenance and investigation of maritime search related accidents;
  • Assisting in the coordination of matters relating to coordination of
    the national maritime search and rescue activities;
  • Coordinating hydrographic surveys, dredging works and charting of
    waterways including updating hydrographic information;
  • Ensuring compliance to the Maritime Training Institute with STCW 95
    conventions and other relevant sections of IMO conventions
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • Applicants should be Ugandans in possession of an Honours Bachelors’
    Degree in Economics or Mechanical Engineering or Social Sciences or
    Business Administration (Management Option) or equivalent qualification in
    Marine Transport from a recognized University.
  • Ethics and integrity; interpersonal, communication and computer
    skills; ability to adapt to multi cultural settings; effective
    organizational and planning skills; time management skills; technical
    skills; report writing skills; negotiation skills; capacity for teamwork;
    innovation and concern for results, quality and standards.
  • Age: Below 21
    years
