Job Summary:  The Director Examinations will be the head of
the Directorate of Examinations and as such, ensure efficient and effective
administration and management of both primary and secondary level examinations.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Planning, controlling, developing, implementing and coordinating
    strategies, and plans for the administration and management examinations,
    preparation of question papers and field conduct of examinations.
  • Convening Directorate meetings with managers of the units, to
    identify and recruit examiners/item writers as well as overseeing the
    organization of writers’ workshops and training of examiners.
  • Ensuring timely setting of PLE, UCE and UACE question papers in
    order to ascertain their validity and coverage in terms of syllabus,
    cognitive levels and clarity of individual questions.
  • Supervising/overseeing the registration of candidates for conformity
    with the registration regulations/ guidelines.
  • Ensuring that District Inspectors of Schools, Area Supervisors and other
    stakeholders are fully informed about the examinations’ programme and
    appropriate actions are taken to ensure proper conduct of examinations.
  • Ensuring that regulations on conduct and supervision of examinations
    are updated annually.
  • Supervising the coordination of setting and moderation of question
    papers as well as the analysis of validity and reliability of
    examinations.
  • Monitoring distribution, field conduct, collection and the marking
    of examinations in order to minimize malpractice and to ensure validity
    and reliability of results.
  • Ensuring that examination results are processed and released
    according to approved schedule and give timely feedback to schools through
    preparation and distribution of reports on the performance of candidates.
  • Coordinating performance appraisal of the staff in the Directorate
    and recommending appropriate action.
  • Producing quarterly and annual performance reports of the
    Directorate as part of the Board’s annual report.

  • Directorate work plan in place.
  • Planned activities done on schedule.
  • Examinations set and moderated.
  • Registration of candidates done on schedule.
  • All examinations administered in the field successfully
  • Marking is done on schedule.
  • Release of results is done on schedule.
  • All Directorate staff appraised and recommendations made.
  • Annual and Quarterly. Reports compiled.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate must hold an Hons Bachelor’s degree in either
    Education or Arts /Sciences with a postgraduate diploma in education or
    the equivalent.
  • Masters’ degree in Education with specialized training in
    Educational Management/Measurement and evaluation/Research methodology /
    statistical analysis or curriculum Development or Master’s degree in
    Management Sciences.
  • At least fifteen (15) years’ experience in examinations management
    or related work, and at least five of which should have been at the level
    of head of department in a reputable educational institution.
  • Track record of sound management skills.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in examinations management.
  • Excellent communications, public relations and negotiation skills
  • Computer literate especially in Word processing PowerPoint and
    Spreadsheets.
  • Team player, high level of moral character and proven integrity.
  • Age Limit: Less
    than 45 years old
