business with supply and demand for beer, spirits and soft drinks with a fast

iconic brands. Located in Port Bell – Luzira in the outskirts of Kampala, the
brewery is continuously modernized and its operating capacity expanded. The
plant has a total brewing capacity of 1,000,000 hectolitres per year set to
grow by 50% with on-going investment in expansion of brew house. Bell Lager is
the company’s flagship brand having been in the market for over 60 years. other
key Brands include: Bell Lager, Tusker Malt, Pilsner, Senator, and Guinness.

Job Summary:  The Tax manager plays a key role in the
management and integrity of the end-to-end tax process.    He/she supports the Finance Director as
well as the Group Indirect and Direct Tax Manager in the identification and
resolution of operational and managerial issues arising from the process.   He/she ensures that the business and key
role holders understand the local taxation framework as well as international
tax and regulatory issues impacting our business and that our obligations are
managed and complied with in line with the business requirements. The job
holder works closely with the Finance Leadership team and key stakeholders from
other functions that work closely with Uganda Breweries as well as the Uganda
revenue Authority. The Tax Manager will partner with cross functional line
managers to develop and build relations with key government tax bodies to
manage UBL’s tax related issues and proactively minimize exposure and risk due
to tax.  

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Ensures that all statutory returns – including settlement – are
    completed accurately, efficiently and on time and that the surrounding
    internal control procedures are strictly adhered to,
  • Facilitates collation, organisation and provision of information to
    tax authorities for routine requests and audits, addresses ad hoc queries
    and ensures timely resolution, maintains prompt and helpful service to tax
    authorities to develop constructive relationship
  • Pro-actively co-ordinates with Group Tax on information requests and
    ad hoc queries,
  • Contributes ideas, energy, enthusiasm and support to the continuous
    improvement of the indirect tax process.

Key Results: 

  • Compliance with all Tax reporting requirements and deadlines 
  • Maintain issues tracker on outstanding issues from tax authorities
    and Group Tax
  • Act as a main point of contact with tax authorities and Group Tax
    (receiver of queries, communication to global Tax CoE, agreement of
    deadlines, co-ordination of resolution), own the compliance agenda
  • Co-ordination and project management of complex queries, audits and
    initiatives, engagement with markets 
  • Identification and escalation of issues and risks to Group Tax
  • Effectively manage a high performing team
  • Deliver process (efficiency and control) improvements continuously

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate for this Diageo Tax Manager job must hold a
    graduate degree in Finance or Accounting with a recognized accountancy /
    tax qualification
  • A minimum of eight years of accounting / tax experience
  • Tax policy knowledge and experience
  • Attention to detail & overview of the business: able to operate
    at the detail level when necessary but always focuses on the big picture
  • Customer relationship / business partnering skills: able to build
    and maintain excellent relationship with Group Tax, the tax authorities
    and in-market finance teams
  • Experience influencing senior external stakeholders and government
  • Experience in working in a multinational financial position, within
    different commercial / cultural markets
  • Experience of actively contributing to a leadership team
  • Fluency in English
  • Project management skills: able to construct project plans across
    boundaries and cultures and to monitor the implementation
  • Good understanding of systems, processes and technologies to enhance
    business performance
  • Strong risk management skills (identification of risks, ensuring
    mitigation plans are in place and implemented)
  • Change management skills
  • Strong understanding of Tax regulations underpinned by experience in
    relevant tax reporting / advisory
