dedicated to providing education and support to pregnant women and mothers
living with HIV, and preventing mother-to-child transmission. Since its
inception, m2m has reached more than one million mothers in seven countries.
Founded in Cape Town in 2001, m2m is a partner in the United Nations’ Global
Plan towards the Elimination of New HIV Infections among Children by 2015 and
Keeping their Mothers Alive.
Job Summary: The Research Assistant will be part of a pool
of resourceful persons who will be engaged from time to time on temporary
assignments. S/he is responsible for
implementing m2m research and evaluation activities in accordance to the standard
operating procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in research related and other trainings as may
be required. - Conduct data audits
- Collect & enter data in the m2m databases as per set targets and
time frames - Support the cleaning process of the data sets
- Compile a list of data related issues, and share recommendations for
improvement - Identify potential participants, assess eligibility and recruit them
as per standard operating procedures - Conduct informed consent processes with potential participants
according to m2m standard procedures - Develop interview schedules; arrange and conduct interviews in
accordance with pre-determined interview guidelines, data collection
procedures, tools and documentation standards. - Ensure that data collected is accurate, complete, properly handled
and stored - Analyze and disseminate research or evaluation findings when
necessary - Ensure the research activity is implemented ethically as per
standard operating procedures and code of ethics
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the mothers2mothers (m2m) Research Assistant job
must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in public health, social science field or
related discipline (biostatistics/ epidemiology advantageous) - At least three to five years’ experience in conducting research and
analysis related to managing research and field-based evaluations and
reporting - Knowledge, skills and experience in quantitative and qualitative
research, data collection, management and analysis, report writing and
editing, and visual presentation of research findings - Experience in analysing large data sets using a statistical software
essential, preferably SPSS or willingness to learn SPSS - Knowledge, skills and experience in qualitative research is an added
advantage - Good working knowledge of major databases and analytical programs
including MS access, MS excel, STATA, SPSS and Epi Data. - Passionate and committed to making a difference in the lives of
women and children - Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and meet deadlines
- Self-starter, results oriented and willing to work longer hours
- Good inter-personal skills within a dynamic multicultural
environment - Good written and verbal communications skills in English
- Fluent in Lusoga or Samia or Luganda
