Uganda National
Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade
Industry and Cooperatives responsible for standardization, Quality Assurance,
Metrology and Laboratory Testing (SQMT) with the objective of facilitating fair
trade, promoting local industries and Consumer protection. The Uganda National
Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade,
Industry and Co-operatives established by the UNBS Act Cap 327 and became
operational in 1989. It is governed by the National Standards Council and
headed by the Executive Director who is responsible for the day-to-day
operation of UNBS.

           

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Manage, support and enforce the implementation of systems so as to
    ensure compliance to imports inspection procedures and guidelines.
  • Conduct periodic internal reviews or system audits to ensure that
    compliance procedures are followed (ePortal; eSW; Asycuda World use and
    other e-systems in use within the department)
  • Conduct internal investigation of compliance issues using the
    departmental systems
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and maintenance of
    all systems that support an efficient imports inspection regime
  • Assess product compliance and operational risks and develop risk
    management strategies
  • Ensure integration of systems to support the departmental quality
    management system
  • Receive, record and submit samples to Testing Department and also
    establish and maintain a clear routing mechanisms
  • Manage sample coding activities so as to ease sample identification
    and preserve sample integrity
  • Follow-up on submitted samples and receive test results for onward
    submission to the supervisor
  • Maintain and update records on sample routing related information
  • Carryout monthly auditing of imports inspection reports against
    information in the system at different stations and provide monthly
    performance reports per station (contrast against total imports from URA
    data)
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual reports on the operations of
    the office

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The applicant for the UNBS Senior Inspector – Compliance &
    Quality Assurance job opportunity should hold a Post Graduate
    qualification in science and an Honours Degree in Chemistry, Biology, Food
    Science, Food Technology, Engineering or any other science related
    qualification from a recognized University/Institution
  • At least five years’ experience in Standards, Quality Assurance, or
    quality control, Standards Development or Laboratory Testing after
    graduation
  • Computer literate with skills in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and
    Internet applications.
  • The successful candidate must have a high level of integrity and
    professionalism, Communication, Teamwork and Analytical skills and needs
    to be a team player, an excellent communicator with good oral communication
    and presentation skills.
  • Age: Between 30
    and 45 years
