Uganda National
Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade
Industry and Cooperatives responsible for standardization, Quality Assurance,
Metrology and Laboratory Testing (SQMT) with the objective of facilitating fair
trade, promoting local industries and Consumer protection. The Uganda National
Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade,
Industry and Co-operatives established by the UNBS Act Cap 327 and became
operational in 1989. It is governed by the National Standards Council and
headed by the Executive Director who is responsible for the day-to-day
operation of UNBS.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement and monitor a strategic, comprehensive enterprise
information security and IT risk management program - Coordinate the development of UNBS information security policies,
standards and procedures - Analyze and recommend security controls and procedures in
acquisition, development, and change management lifecycle of information
systems, and provide oversight to ensure compliance. - Monitor information systems for security incidents and
vulnerabilities; develop monitoring and visibility capabilities; report on
incidents, vulnerabilities, and trends - Oversee the response to information system security incidents, including
investigation of, countermeasures, and recovery from computer-based
attacks, unauthorized access, and policy breaches - Oversee the administration of authentication and access controls,
including provisioning, changes, and de-provisioning of user and system
accounts, security/access roles, and access permissions to information
assets. - Facilitate risk assessment and risk management processes
- Development and enhance an information security management framework
- Ensure the consistent application of policies and standards across
all technology projects, systems and services. - Oversee the development and administration of information security
training and awareness programs for staff members and other authorized
users. - Recommend methods for vulnerability detection and remediation and
oversee vulnerability testing. - Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery planning
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the UNBS Principal ICT Officer – Information Security
job opportunity should hold a Master’s degree in Computer Science,
Information Technology, Information Systems management, Computer
engineering, software engineering or other qualifications in systems
analysis, design, development from a recognized university. - Professional certification in IT Security e.g. CISSP, CSSLP, CCFP or
CISM, CompTIA Security+ - At least eight (8) years of related experience with working
knowledge in IT Security. - Should have broad organizational awareness.
- Familiarity with ICT regulations;
- High level of integrity and professionalism; must also have people
management skills; Possess proficiency in performance management; and must
have good understanding of business processes - Knowledge of common information security management frameworks, such
as ISO/IEC 27001, and NIST. - Experience with Cloud computing/Elastic computing across virtualized
environments. - Strong Unix and windows server system admiration skills
- Hands-on supervisory competencies with capacity to multi-task and
deliver results efficiently with minimal supervision - The successful candidate must have a high level of integrity and
professionalism, Communication, Teamwork and Analytical skills and needs
to be a team player, an excellent communicator with good oral
communication and presentation skills. - Age: Between 30
and 45 years
