Uganda Solar Energy
Association (USEA) was started in 2016 with support from the Ministry of Energy
and Mineral Development. USEA is a private sector membership body whose role is
to enable growth of the off-grid solar energy sector through coordination,
information sharing, building capacity of its members and carrying out joint
advocacy. USEA has a membership of more than 130 member companies. As one of
the ways of supporting the implementation of the Rural Electrification Strategy
Plan (RESP 2013-2022), ERT 3 project, through PSFU, is supporting the
development of USEA’s strategic framework and establishment of institutional
systems. The objective of the support is to nurture USEA into a:

·        
Financially
self-sustaining, strong advocacy body able to influence the formation of
favorable policies for the sector

·        
One-stop
center for information on solar PV, and

·        
Promoter
of quality products and service delivery to end users

·        
Effective
representative of its members on issues of government policy.

Job Summary:  The Communication & Membership Officer
will support the USEA Chief Executive Officer in the broader operation and
management of the USEA Secretariat to ensure successful implementation of
USEA’s activities. Specifically, the Communications & Membership Officer
will be responsible for (i) creating awareness and communicating the
organization’s mandate to all stakeholders and (ii) implementing member
recruitment and retention activities. The Communication and Membership (C &
M) Officer will be responsible for developing and implementing a communication
strategy some of which aspects will include (i) awareness creation and
visibility for USEA (ii) media relations (iii) digital communications/social
media (iv) USEA branding and communications (v) Managing events.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Development and implementation of a membership growth and retention
    strategy;
  • Identification and packaging membership services aimed at improving
    members’ businesses;
  • Maintenance of a clear and correct database of USEA’s membership and
    other stakeholders ensuring that it is regularly updated with correct
    information;
  • Creation and management of a client relationship system that is
    responsive to members and other stakeholder requirements;
  • Arrangement of stakeholder meetings to identify business and
    capacity building partnerships;
  • Carrying out annual member satisfaction survey and needs assessment;
  • Development and implementation of a program of activities for
    members, including interactive sessions, social meetings/events;

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

  • The ideal candidate must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in communications,
    social work, journalism, public relations, ICT or a related field. A
    Master’s Degree in communications will be an added advantage.
  • At least five years of similar work experience is required.
    Candidate should be able to work independently – with minimum supervision
    and guidance from supervisors. Demonstrated and extensive social media
    experience is an added advantage.
  • Excellent written and oral English communication skills and
    proficiency in English are required. Knowledge of other languages/dialects
    is an asset.
  • He/she should have advanced working knowledge of MS Office (Word,
    PowerPoint, Excel, Adobe, CRMs and Publisher).
  • Candidates with basic design and layout skills and adept in using
    Adobe Photoshop and PageMaker are an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated and extensive social media experience is an added
    advantage.
