Uganda National
Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade
Industry and Cooperatives responsible for standardization, Quality Assurance,
Metrology and Laboratory Testing (SQMT) with the objective of facilitating fair
trade, promoting local industries and Consumer protection. The Uganda National
Bureau of Standards (UNBS) is a statutory body under the Ministry of Trade,
Industry and Co-operatives established by the UNBS Act Cap 327 and became
operational in 1989. It is governed by the National Standards Council and
headed by the Executive Director who is responsible for the day-to-day
operation of UNBS.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive samples and prepare them for analysis as they come from sample
reception according to Standard Operating Procedures - Monitor and maintain Laboratory records up to date, such as the
sample submittal forms, sample book and certificate book as required by
Quality Management Systems of ISO 17025 and ISO 9001 - Clean and decontaminate where necessary laboratory apparatus and
ensure cleaned (and steril glassware is available at all times - Ensure that distilled water is available in the laboratory and
placed in appropriate containers - Maintain good housekeeping of the laboratory and assist in sample
preparation - Ensure routine maintenance of the laboratory including cleanliness,
servicing and repair of equipment
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the UNBS Laboratory Technician job opportunity
should hold a Diploma in Chemistry, Biology, Food science, Food
Technology, Engineering or any other science related qualifications from
recognized University/Institutions - The applicants must be computer literate with skills in MS Word,
Excel, PowerPoint, and Internet applications. - A minimum of one year of post-graduation experience
- The successful candidates need to be team players, excellent
communicators with good oral communication and presentation skills. - Age: Between 20
and 30 years
