Electrification Agency (REA) is the secretariat of the Rural Electrification
Board (REB) established by statutory instrument 2001 No. 75. REA is mandated to
implement Government’s rural electrification programs. The Government of Uganda
through REA is implementing a number of electricity connection projects with
financial support from development partners to meet national electricity access
targets.
coordinate the implementation of solar photovoltaic PV access activities aimed
at accelerating the dissemination of solar product especially among the low
income segment of the population in order to displace the use kerosene as a
main source of lighting.
- Coordinate the implementation of off-grid standalone solar energy
related activities. - Design and implement an solar energy access programme aimed at providing
basic electricity services to low income segment of the population - Design and implement programme for providing basic electricity
services for production. - In collaboration with the Uganda National Bureau of Standards
establish a quality assurance framework for solar PV products on the
market through adoption of national quality standards, enforcement of
quality standards and enhanced testing capacity in the country. - Undertake public awareness campaigns to inform consumers of the
benefits and characterizes of good quality products. - Provide technical assistance, including training to designated key
stakeholders in the solar industry. - Monitor and evaluate, on the on-going basis, the performance of
solar activities and their impact to targeted communities. - Represent REA on committees and forums which support the development
PV in Uganda in various agencies/institutions. - Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head of Department.
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree (honours) in Engineering
or Physics from a recognized University. - A Master’s Degree or Post Graduate Diploma from a recognized
institution in Solar PV technology or energy related studies will be an
added advantage. - Five years of experience in the PV industry, either in the public or
private sector, with experience in design, installation and marketing or
promotion. - Demonstrated capacity to function as a highly motivated and
innovative team player, with good interpersonal relationships. - Must have experience working with rural communities on rural
development issues.
