Job Summary: The Business Support
Assistant (IT Operations) will keenly track IT equipment and manage the
inventory. Because inventory tracking is not yet fully decentralized, the
incumbent has to make a considerable effort to reconcile IT assets sent to the
field by following up on the issued equipment handover notes with the final
recipients.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain inventory of material and database of information for all
ICT related equipment, such as, computer related equipment, communications
equipment, training material, etc; - Act as the IT focal point for IT support at Strategic fleet and the
warehouse at Nalukolongo. - Act as the back-up focal point for the logging of ICT related
trouble tickets (TT), escalate the TTs to appropriate IT personnel, follow
up to ensure successful resolution of tickets, update the TT database
accordingly. - Receive ICT equipment and service invoices, ensure that the data is
captured in the appropriate database to facilitate prompt payment. - Assist in the deployment/dissemination of standard material, such
as, computer hardware and/or software, applications, programs,
directories, telephony, database content, training material, etc; - Assist in the maintenance of systems and equipment by carrying out
routine tasks, such as backing up data, running systems diagnostics, patch
management, system optimization, removing viruses and bad data; - Administer user access to systems and databases, monitor system and
application usage, respond to unusual activity or suspected system abuse; - Monitor network and server infrastructure ensure that system
failures are pro-actively resolved by logging and escalating system
failure notifications; - Assist in the resolution of IT equipment, telecommunications and
power problems by responding to queries, identifying and troubleshooting
issues and where necessary forwarding unresolved issues to the appropriate
person; - Assist in training and support of users of technology and systems
- Keep IT stores (in CO and Nalukolongo) in a clean and organized
state, ensure that stored IT equipment is easily found using a database
catalogue. - Ensure that old or obsolete equipment is disposed of appropriately
by identifying obsolete equipment, preparation of the equipment for
disposal and completion of the relevant documentation to facilitate the
disposal - Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the United Nations UN World Food Programme
(WFP) Business Support Assistant (IT Operations) job placement should hold a University
degree in IT, Computer Science or related functional area. - IT certifications like CCNA, MSCE, COMPTIA + and other similar
certifications are an added advantage - A minimum of two years providing ICT support to end-users
- Previous experience in inventory management and database
administration is an advantage - Fluency in both oral and written communication in English.
- Academic or professional experience in computer science.
