Title: Assistant
Accountant
(UTB)
Board (UTB) is a statutory organization established by Uganda Tourism Board
Statute of 1994 and reconstituted in the Tourism Act 2008. Its objectives are:
- To promote and contribute to the
Development of Tourism sector both within and outside of Uganda. - To coordinate with the Ministry
responsible for Tourism and the private sector in the implementation of
the National Tourism policy.
Assistant Accountant will support the finance and planning department in
payment processing, asset & stores management, revenue management and
filling of tax returns..
Responsibilities:
Reviewing
the day to day financial transactions and ensuring that they have the required
supporting documents before they are approved for payment.
Prepare
a weekly Cash flow projections report showing the entity’s available funds to
be allocated for the UTB’s activities.
Capturing
of approved payments in the Integrated Financial Management system (IFMS) and
advising on the status of payments made to staff and suppliers.
Receipting
all Non Tax revenue collected in IFMS on weekly basis and a report submitted to
head of finance.
Receive
goods into the stores and ensure that all stock issues are fully supported with
all necessary documents filed accordingly.
Computation
and timely payment of the mandatory Statutory Taxes (PAYE, WHT) and submission
of monthly staff NSSF returns.
Maintain
a clean fixed assets register for all the entities assets and ensure that
additions and disposals are recognized in accordance with the Finance Manual of
the organization.
Petty
cash management while ensuring that replenishments are done on time.
Perform
any other official duties assigned from time to time.
Skills and Experience:
The
ideal candidate must hold a Degree in Business Administration, Business
Studies, Commerce, and Finance majoring in accounting. Professional
qualifications will be an added advantage.
Knowledge
in the use of computerised accounting packages such as IFMS and other IT skills
are extremely desirable.
A
minimum of two years of experience in financial management and accounting from
a reputable Organization.
Good
knowledge of the principles and practices of running a government body or an
agency like UTB, and the rules and procedures that govern Uganda Tourism Board.
Should
possess an excellent understanding of accounting principles and computer skills
in accounting software.
Should
be a good team player with strong analytical skills so as to support the
Finance directorate towards accomplishing the necessary financial objectives.
