Fish is a UK founded charity organization whose mission is to address global
youth unemployment and poverty by providing practical, relevant education to
young people in developing countries. We support schools to set up school
businesses which provide hands-on training and experience for pupils. This
boosts quality of education and employability – bridging the gap between
education and the workplace – so that students leave school with the right
skills to get a good job or run their own successful business. We are a small

business model to more than 100 countries, reaching over 80,000 beneficiaries
and supporting them to reach their full potential in work and in life. In 2017,
through the School Enterprise Challenge programme, Teach A Man To Fish worked
in partnership with 16 partner NGOs to deliver the programme to 500+schools,
impacting over 40,000 young people in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
Fish is implementing a Girl Education Challenge (GEC) project in a with a
consortium of partners in Uganda. The project is supporting 60 families with
income generating activities (IGAs) to empower vulnerable and impoverished girl
children in Eastern region of Uganda. This is meant enable families have
sustainable source of income to enable them pay school fees for their needy
girls as well as provide essential requirements like books, pads and pens to
these girls.
GEC Field Officer must be a motivated, entrepreneurial individual who will lead
the implementation of the Income Generation adaptation recently approved by the
Funder. The Objective of this role is to effectively coordinate the
implementation of the household income generation projects with 60
household/families in Eastern Uganda.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in implementation of both the household income
generation - Participate in selection, trainings and follow up for selected
girls’ households and family members to develop sustainable household
businesses - File weekly progress reports to GEC Field Officer and participate
in the weekly Monday morning meetings with the GEC team and SEC EA Program
Officer
- Participate in delivery of trainings and follow up for IGA
families with new and existing family businesses. - Build and maintain relationships with participating such that they
are bought into and engaged with the adaptations
- Participate in delivery of all M&E activities for the
adaptations - Input data to data collection sheets and share with M&E
officer.
- Participate in recruitment and management and support a team of
resource persons to ensure project activities are implemented in line with
the approved work plan - Submit accurate and timely reconciliations from Resource Persons
to Admin and Finance Officer along with receipts for all expenditure
Skills and Experience:
- The ideal candidate for the Teach A Man To Fish GEC Field Officer
job placement must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Social
Work, Commerce, Business Administration, Development Studies, Adult &
Community Education, Business Computing, Accounting, or a related field. - One year experience in a field officer/programme assistant role or
similar role Qualified female persons from Eastern Uganda are strongly are
encouraged to apply - Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral
- Understanding of basic business concepts, including business
planning and business management - Ability to use common software packages including Word, Excel,
Skype, E-mail - Proven ability to problem solve, multi-task and work independently
- Well-developed organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a small
team - Willingness to travel by public transport and work flexibly
- Proficiency in any of the local languages spoken in the area
- Experience in business planning and business management processes
- Experience of teaching or training
