Job Summary:  The Credit Specialist will play a very
important role in managing the company’s credit portfolio from end-to-end: from
prospective customer risk assessment through to overall portfolio analysis and
monitoring, and supporting measures to work with customers to secure payments.
The duty station for this role is at the head quarter in Kampala, although one
may be required to travel upcountry from time to time.  This function reports to the Head of Finance
& Administration.

Key Duties and Responsibilities: 

•                    
Design
(incl. KPI definition), implement, manage, and monitor loan management and
system recovery processes and policies

•                    
Credit
check new customers and open new credit accounts ensuring the Village Power has
all the relevant information on the debtor.

•                    
Keenly
monitor the health of the overall PAYG portfolio on a daily basis to detect any
trends or warnings within the portfolio through different lenses such as store,
payment plans, customer group etc.

•                    
The
incumbent will also manage down default and overdue rates by analyzing payment
trends and determining effective interventions

•                    
Mange
the relationship with external debt collectors: selection of accounts;
monitoring progress on accounts being worked; handling customer feedback

•                    
Resolve
disputes with customers regarding payments, possession of systems etc.

•                    
Advise
on the legal and other recovery actions against bad debtors

•                    
Maintain
an accurate record of all debt chasing activity and provide a weekly
performance report

•                    
Perform
any other relevant duties that may be assigned by supervisor as necessary

Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 

•                    
The
applicant must have qualifications / training in finance and credit management

•                    
Proven
experience as a credit analyst or specialist

•                    
Strong
analytical skills including competence in using analytics tools such as MS
Excel

•                    
A
strategic thinker

•                    
A back
ground in micro finance would be of great advantage

•                    
Flexible,
adaptable, problem-solving  and
results-oriented mind-set necessary in a start-up environment
