The Elizabeth Glaser
Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF) seeks to end pediatric HIV/AIDS through
research, advocacy, and prevention and treatment programs. We are a global
leader in the fight against pediatric HIV and AIDS, working in 15 countries and
at 7,000 sites around the world to prevent the transmission of HIV to children,
and to help those already infected. Today, because of the highly successful
work of the Foundation and its partners over the last 25 years, pediatric AIDS
has been virtually eliminated in the United States and new infections in
children have declined by 58% worldwide. EGPAF Uganda Country program is
currently implementing a number of projects in partnership with various donors.
Job Summary:  The Data Manager will work with the EGPAF
evaluation/research unit and support all research and evaluation activities.
The research data manager will be the key person who will interact with
investigators, principal Investigators, program managers, and research study
coordinators, data entry officers to facilitate the collection and integration
of data from study facilities and communities. 
The primary activities of this position are design of databases,
supervision of data entry, data curation, data quality, and management of
research data in electronic systems. The data manager will also perform preliminary
data analysis.
Key Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • The jobholder will oversee and coordinate data entry and management,
    including data quality control
  • Develop and execute procedures for the abstraction and merging of
    data records from source databases into the study database.
  • Actively contribute to the design of protocols, which define what
    when and how data is to be managed.
  • Responsible for the writing, training, and oversight of the data
    management SOPs for the various studies.
  • Work closely with study coordinators to follow-up data errors,
    discrepancies, and missing information for ongoing data cleaning.
  • Maintain a log of data collection flow between data entry center and
    study sites/communities.
  • Update and maintain the integrity, security and data backup of the
    study database routinely.
  • Performs and oversee chart reviews and other data quality
    activities.
  • Perform and oversee data audits comparing database with data
    collection instruments
  • Perform ad hoc data entry
  • Track and assess quality and completeness of data entry and
    abstraction; immediately raise potential concerns with study
    managers/supervisors.
  • Cleaning incoming data files, integrate data files into the data
    management system, update summary files, process data requests from
    investigators ensure data quality through the execution of computer
    programs, development of protocols, and other quality assurance
  • Provides technical assistance and training to the staff who may be
    required to data enter/quality review information
  • Performs evaluation and preliminary analysis of data; prepares
    routine reports documenting results of findings; creates reports using MS
    Access, Excel, Word, or PowerPoint; may participate in formal or informal
    presentation of findings.
  • Responsible for data validation through reconciliation process.
  • Perform preliminary analysis on research data sets.
  • Ensures accuracy and timeliness of data so that information may be
    used by the Principal Investigator in presentations, reports and
    publication.



Qualifications, Skills and Experience: 
  • The applicant for the EGPAF Data Manager job must hold a Bachelor’s
    Degree in information technology, health informatics, bio-informatics,
    statistics, epidemiology or any relevant scientific discipline or an
    equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training.
  • Ability to think critically and to solve problems that arise related
    to study protocols.
  • Able to prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent
    deadlines
  • At least five years’ experience managing research data
  • Previous experience in a health-related environment is desirable.
  • Working knowledge of database languages, such as SQL is essential.
  • Knowledge of statistical packages, e.g. STATA, SPSS and basic
    statistical analyses is preferable.
  • Broad knowledge and understanding of data processing/ management.
  • Excellent database computing skills, including a high level of
    competency in the use of Microsoft Access (including the creation of
    databases, queries, forms etc.).Keen attention to detail and focus on
    quality and innovation
